A Day in the Life of (a very healthy) President Bush - (photos) - 8.1.06

This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.

Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)

The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.

A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.

Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.

Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.

"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.

The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.

His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.

Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.

Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."

Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)

First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)

Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Ice cream is one of the essential food groups. And fresh made wards off all sorts of illnesses.

It's 100 degrees here today, so you've just made me very jealous. :-)

Yummers! We used to pick wild blackberries when we lived in Georgia, and I made pies and cobblers. They are stickery but getting that wonderful fruit makes the scratches all worth while!

Actually, compared to the rest of the country we're 'cool' here. (Lower 90's).

We just don't usually get this stuff, and I guess people aren't turning the AC up where it ought to be.

Now you say that I think I have seen him about it annoys me when such people come here and disrupt there are plenty of threads they can go and gripe on without trying to be clever on this one.

Fenton is glass, beautiful glass. I have a crystal-clear cranberry vase by Fenton. They also make milk glass of a much-higher quality than any other milk glass I've ever seen.

Most of ours are the larger cultivated ones which are very sweet and are lovely on their own or with fresh cream and now of course with the ice cream. I am very pleased that I invested in an ice cream maker a couple of weeks ago.

I'll give three just for fun......

This was a priceless moment, IMO.....

And I like these kinds of things........when they sort of get 'tangled up' with each other.....

And this recent private fun moment that we all got to share.....

I come from a family with a number of people who are 'dense'.......muscular and weighing more than they look like they do.

Then I married into a family with some who are the same.

You just can't pay any attention to the 'what you should weigh' charts when you're built that way.

Obviously, the President is the same way.

(I wonder how much hermanito Jeb weighs??)

Hmm Jen...I have more than one. I hope that's okay.

1)In 2001 at the American Author's Celebration when George spanked Laura, and then she said whatever she said to him lol I love that, so cute and funny

2)And another time he popped her behind going onto AF1. Can't remember when that was. It was somewhat recent. Like 5 months ago lol I think. But, that's all I can think of right now. Hard question girlfriend! :-)

I am the reverse I am very small frame and so extra weight shows quite quickly on me.

I have been ignoring it for the past year or so but after seeing the photo of me taken at the last girls night out I knew I had to do something.

I would agree with all of those "moments"...I was thinking of 1 that Karen wrote about in her book although we didn't witness it:

She said they were all in the limo and the ss man asked W to hold on and he lunged across the limo, put his arms around Laura, and said "hold Mrs. Bush you say, no problem"...they need to let us see stuff like that. Priceless.

oh ohio.. great Dose tonight.. love the BP & RHR of president.. wow. a man in shape (well we all KNOW that!)

and what is what the out of focus pix tonight.. The media need new cameras or do I need my computer screen changed(or glasses?)

What fun. I wish I had gotten here earlier.. I was here but just having a lot of fun doing a power point for VBS.. I really REALLY love doing those things.

An idea for you folks on what we do.. I am the photogrpaher each year. I take LOTS of pix. VBS runs M-F & Sunday morning is a special program during worship & many visitor are present.

I have all the pix I have taken/worked up & the power point on a CD. The minister writes a letter, the VBS directors write a letter & there are various files on CD for people.

It is an evangelistic tool but also a memory bank for the staff & VBSers.

I mgith put it on my server & send the link to anyone who might want to see it & use it. You can modify it w/your own pic.

I do many power points at church & they are the "church mouse".. this one is the Church Mouse & VBS 2006.

I really don't know if it's crystal, but it costs as much. Not everything they make is thin glass, though.

I have no clue as to what's happened to the pictures, Dolly.

They are larger and fuzzier than normal.

Must be Dose gremlins again. :)
