I was just in the middle of writing a long and tedious essay, about how to tell a real anti-Semite from a person who too-loudly rejects the charge of anti-Semitism, when a near-perfect real-life example came to hand. That bad actor and worse director Mel Gibson, pulled over for the alleged offense of speeding and the further alleged offense of speeding under the influence, decided that he needed to demand of the arresting officer whether he was or was not Jewish and that he furthermore needed to impart the information that all the world's wars are begun by those of Semitic extraction.
Call me thin-skinned if you must, but I think that this qualifies. I also think that the difference between the blood-alcohol levelsand indeed the speed limitsthat occasioned the booking are insufficient to explain the expletives (as Gibson has since claimed in a typically self-pitying and verbose statement put out by his publicist). One does not abruptly decide, between the first and second vodka, or the ticks of the indicator of velocity, that the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion are valid after all.
There's a lot to dislike about Gibson. He is given to furious tirades against homosexuals of the sort that make one wonder if he has some kind of subliminal or "unaddressed" problem. His vulgar and nasty movies, which also feature this prejudice, are additionally replete with the cheapest caricatures of the English.
True. We only heard the words of Mel. Perhaps the officer said something provoking and Mel asked him, 'are you Jewish'? And Mel continued to mouth off. It's easy to push a drunk's buttons.

Mel Gibson's Meltdown
He is sick to his empty core with Jew-hatred.

Mel Gibson
The Passion was a brilliant movie. He is a great director in that. I may not like his drunken driving or his tirade, but I can't deny how moving The Passion was.
LOLOL...
"I'm an ACTOR!!! I have ALL the feelings!" -- Goldie Hawn, "First Wives Club."
I knew what you meant.
You believe ...... and that's it.
Pardon me, but you are far from a psychologist.
Stick up for him all you want...he spoke as he believes...I don't want nor need an apology from him.
MEL'S ENEMIES LACK FORGIVENESS
Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on the furor over the comments Mel Gibson allegedly made after his arrest for drunk driving Friday morning:
"What Mel Gibson apparently said is indefensible. The remark attributed to him, 'The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,' is anti-Semitic and irresponsible. Fortunately, he has apologized for his bigoted outburst. Unfortunately, his apology is being rejected by some who should know better.
To wit: Abraham Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League, has branded Gibson's apology 'unremorseful and insufficient.' Moreover, Foxman concludes that it shows what a 'sham' it is for Gibson to portray himself as the 'tolerant, loving person' who made 'The Passion of the Christ.'
"We have quite a file on Ted Turner at the Catholic League. Unlike Foxman, I have accepted every apology Turner has ever made for his anti-Catholic outbursts, all of which were made while he was sober. Indeed, I even went so far as to say that 'no one in his right mind' would ever put Ted Turner 'in the same camp with a Klansman or an inveterate bigot.'
More recently, when radio shock-jocks Opie and Anthony apologized for their orchestrated anti-Catholic stunt in St. Patrick's Cathedral a few years back, I not only accepted their apology, I was the first guest on their new CBS radio show and welcomed their return.
"But Mel's enemies will never cut him a break. Their real goal is to discredit 'The Passion of the Christ,' and that is why their propaganda machine is in full gear. Never mind that Mel has said that 'Anti-Semitism is not only contrary to my personal beliefs, it is also contrary to the core message of my movie.' How ironic it is to note that the core message of his filmforgivenessis sorely lacking in his critics.
"In 2003, Roman Polanski, the convicted child rapist, received a standing ovation when he won an Oscar for 'The Pianist.' Nice to know what really offends Hollywood."

"His BAC was only 0.12%. He must have been in a bad mood earlier."
In alcoholism as it progresses, one drink changes the personality often as drastically as Jekyll/Hyde. I've also never known an alcoholic who didn't say absurd, nasty anti-semitic things.
I don't know whether you need an apology or not. I do not care about that.
As usual you do not reply to the content of my post. I said you are an amateur psychologist concerning alcohol. (yes, I read that you drank.)
Also, you repeatedly will not answer the question about WHY (you think) the Jews have been persecuted throughout history.
Your unwillingness to answer that question is somewhat illuminating.
The Jews who are all bent out of shape about Mel right now are just unnecessarily magnifying that never-ending Jewish persecution complex....... plain and simple.
They do themselves no favors.
I'm pretty sure you don't have to look much beyond whatever Irish blood he's got to find his weakness for booze.
P.S. Grow up.
"...it would be a travesty on the level of "Chicago" winning."
Hey now! Chicago was a great, enjoyable movie, I loved it. Which movie that year did you think should have won?
would you remove comment 316. it was a reply to a comment which could have been misinterpreted.
See comment 318. Sorry about 316.
