Willie: Dixie Chicks 'Got a Raw Deal'

NEW YORK — Willie Nelson says the Dixie Chicks "got a raw deal" from a disapproving public following their criticism of President Bush.

"I think the fact that they were overseas and onstage had a little bit to do with it because you're speaking to other people about our business," the 73-year-old country crooner said in an interview in this week's Time magazine.

The trio caught harsh criticism after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 that the group was "ashamed" Bush was from their home state of Texas.

Nelson said he was surprised his remarks about Bush a year earlier during an overseas news conference didn't incite a similar controversy.

"I said 'He's not from Texas and he ain't a cowboy, so let's stop trashin' Texans and cowboys.' It got a little chuckle, but I didn't get run out of the country," Nelson told the magazine.

Nelson recently launched his own XM Radio channel and published "The Tao of Willie," in which he offers his philosophy on subjects ranging from marijuana to war.

Looks like Willie's trying to drum up interest in that old song of his, "Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth"

I'm not picking on the Dixie Chicks.

I really, really dislike Willie Nelson too.

This American thinks those who act and sing should act and sing, and keep their political bent to themselves.

I'd like to help sponsor all of them to go play a concert for Al-Queda.

Oh come on Willie, NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU SAY....here in Houston, a morning DJ on FM92.9 was asked why the station wouldn't play the Dixie Chicks' new CD...he said the listening public DOES NOT WON'T TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM THEM.

If you can't take up for your country and your President in neutered europe...MOST AMERICANS LIKE 70-80%....can break you...those dumb arsses didn't seem to realize performers from all over the world become wealthy due primarily because of Americans.

I like some of his music, but the worst concert I ever attended was him performing in Pensacola in the late 80's.
Maybe 2,000 people there and you could sense he was just
trying to get it over with.

Pfft. And some say pot doesn't harm the brain.

Willie's proof that it does.

I can't pull his name out at the moment, but there is a Country singer that wrote a line in a song... "I can't smoke weed with Willie no more". This was in direct response to Willie's liberal lovin' ways. I can't listen to him any longer.

Willie, we all know that whenever you speak you're stoned so we ignore it. Just shut-up and sing.

That was Toby Keith. He and Scotty Emerick wrote it during the long bus tours - it's one of the Bus Songs. I've seen it live twice and have enjoyed it, but damn!

Remember he played himself in Wag the Dog, penning the "Old Shoe" song to support the wag the dog scenario?

I'm to the point where even if I like their music,if they push their politics in my face,I won't listen to them anymore. That was their choice,so I make mine accordingly.

Let me guess:

For and Against, respectively.
