Sounds to me like two seperate stories mixed up together. Earlier today it was reported that IDF forces had killed a couple of Islamic Jihad biggies...at least one and maybe two. The report about UN forces in Gaza firing on a crowd (or into the air, as I heard it) is a seperate story that happened when an armed mob stormed the UN place in Gaza.

Maybe Podhoretz is correct when he raised the possibility that western societies had evolved to the point that they could not win against cold blooded, barbaric enemies. The elevation of the life of every individual prevented the kind of action needed to defeat the enemies. I hope Podhoretz, but the tentative, time consuming, ultra PC war Israel was fighting supports the thesis of this article.
