If they, Congress, changes the UCMJ, then that takes away the blackmail problem. .........

They, Congress, haven't done so (and for good reason in my estimate). Therefore, you speculation is in the same category of "if frogs had wings...."

If he wants to serve, who cares as if he's gay. In the service, he does have to be discreet about it and will catch sh-- from some people, but that's life. I'm glad he got the honorable.

Yes because I know they are not going to try anything in there. Most gays who join the military are doing it cause just like everyone else they want to defend and serve their country. They are not going to be in the shower coming on to everyone in there. Majority of military shows are individual stalls.

I'm glad to see you approve of weakening our military...la

A non-argument. Another qualified soldier would have taken his place at DLI if the SGT had been honest, and did not enlist in the first place. The problem is the goofy policy. It is idiotic to expect zero sexual activity over the course of an enlistment, let alone a career.

It doesn't make sense. If someone is patriotic and brave enough to want to defend their country, then they should do so. Bullets, bombs, missiles and terrorists do not discriminate between straight and gay Americans............

Excuse me for interjecting a comment relative to your post to another poster, but I could not resist pointing out you failure in logic.

It is you who apparently in favor of weakening our military. Good order and discipline are critical to the function an effective military. The UCMJ has been established specifically to promote that good order and discipline. Consequently, those who are caught willfully violating it along with those who support their unlawful actions are the ones “weakening” our military.

That little fantasy scenario makes about as much sense as the following scenario.

A decorated sergeant and Arabic language specialist was absent from duty that day due to being on sick call and getting treatment for his HIV+ status.

He is lawfully serving the U.S. Army under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and has not told anyone he's gay - which is absolutely allowed.

The military is not allowed to kick him out for being HIV+ as long as he does not practice open homosexuality or state that he is a homosexual. HIV is not proof of homosexuality.

His commander is NOT allowed to ask him how he got the HIV if the question is related to homosexual activity.

There are active duty members who serve with HIV they came down with after entering service and the military is not allowed to discharge them on those grounds alone, as long as it does not progress to full blown AIDS. And then they get full medical care if they are discharged for AIDS.

However the military may reclassify them to another job and prohibit them from deploying to certain geographical regions or combat zones.

You have 10 intercepted documents written in Arabic.

One of the 10 documents tells where a nuke is located that will go off in 30 minutes. It takes 25 minutes to interpret each of the documents.

You have 10 interpreters for the 10 documents but one is gay.

The gay not being there that day because he is at sick call for his HIV+ related illness means at least one of the documents won't get interpreted in time to find the nuke and react.

Military: "we are bending over backwards to accommodate gays, but it is still never good enough for the militant gay agendists"

Open the floodgates to the Gay Left Wing Anti-War crowd - sure, makes sense to me.

...though he says he never admitted being gay...

Well, it would seem he admitted it to someone.
Someone with a computer, an email account and an axe to grind.

If this is true that gays can't handle it in the militaries and in close quarters then what about all the other militarys in the world who allow gays in the service openely including some of our allies Israel, Great Britain, Australia,Canada. Straights and gays seem to get along just fine and there are no problems.

They kick you out for HIV anyway, but this is a typical Times hit piece. "decoated" could mean the NDSM, the GWOTS, good conduct, and a AAM or two for tying his shoes right. Big deal. Also, the gov't can always hire the homos back as civilian contractors to translate documents.

If someone is patriotic and brave enough to want to defend their country, then they should do so.

Perhaps you would like to explain why the services do not take convicted felons that are " patriotic and brave enough to want to defend their country." It couldn't have anything to do with good order and discipline, could it?

As I noted in an earlier post, the UCMJ has been established specifically to promote that good order and discipline. Consequently, those who are caught willfully violating it are disrupting "good order and discipline." Such disruptions are counterproductive to the military's reason for existence. Therefore, it (that to which you were referring) makes perfect sense.

Wouldn't it be great if people who WANT America to be any other country in the world BUT America would just decide to move to the country that they really want to be in?

No, instead we have those who DEMAND that AMERICA change, because AMERICA is always wrong, of course.

Nice DNC talking point.

As I recall, the Hildebeast famously remarked that she "loathed" the military. She proved it. Let's not forget who came up with the irrational policy in the first place.
