Wasn't shopping a joy then? *sigh*

As a child, I knew the payoff for good behavior would be receiving the same respect from children, even those of strangers, when I became an adult *sigh*.

When your children were in a cart, did you ever take your eyes off of them to look at the products you were shopping for? That can be very dangerous...little fingers could put something small in their mouths, pull a heavy can onto their heads or worse get tangled up with a strap that could choke them. If you claim that you never took your eyes off of them, you weren't shopping or you are lying.

And you have a fantastic imagination. If the kid's in a cart in front of you, it's kinda hard to get away with much.

Odd that you try so hard to be insulting in your first post. Debate would have been a better choice.

What harm would have come to us sitting on a bench inside a store? I'm sorry that you can't see the difference between kids in the 50's and now.

Don't feel sorry for me. It is interesting to see that you cannot fathom what harm could have come to you while your mother was out of sight- even if it was in the 50s, any number of things could have happened, and gladly did not.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did see both of those comments but I took neither one to mean what you suggested -- that she deserved to have her child die. I just took it to mean that she should have been more careful.

I was going to say, "Here's looking at you, kid," but upon reflection...

I was going to say I was saddened by some posts, but now I guess I am saddened and disappointed.Oh well. Faith in humanity dashed again. When I first read the story, yes, I know it was posted in News, not Religion, I thought that FReeper prayers would be said for a little life too quickly ended. You know the kind of thread I am talking about, the picture of a guardian angel on one post, prayers for the innocent baby on another, a FR thread that if shown to the grieving family might bring just the slightest bit of comfort.I can only hope that they never ever ever happen upon this thread.
Christopher's mama will blame herself forever. No more sticky hugs, no more of his smiles, no more hearing his voice. Christopher will never grow up, will never fall in love, will never grow old. God Bless this family Lord. Find a way to ease their pain, and let them know that their precious baby is in a better place.
I'm going to stop reading now and call my grandson. He can blow kisses on the phone now, and this grandma is in need of them.

You sound like a good parent and VERY proud of your kids. And it sounds as if you have good reason. Future Freepers? :)

Ohh I see the difference is not only is She a perfect parent she was also a perfect kid! WOW!

No, the difference is discipline. My mother didn't like getting spanked. I behaved well enough she never had to spank me, I knew the limits well.

We knew the limits and boundaries. Now there are few.

If there had been a heavy, unsecured mirror hanging behind you, plenty. You kids should have been in carts and someone should have called CPS on your mother.

You're not around kids very much are you?

Nieces and nephews mainly, and they are very well behaved in and out of public. No running around stores, I hear yes 'mam, no 'mam, please and thank you.

Other peoples kids, I usually can't tolerate due to their parents indulgence spoiling them. I prefer kids that mind. Too much can happen to them or others when they don't.

Question: Who would be at fault if a three year old child ran into an adult, tripping them and causing them to hit their head on some ornamental work at WalMart..lets say the adult died. Is Walmart at fault, the kid, or the parent?

I said: If he had been next to her, he wouldn't have been near the mirror.

And I said that if she had been next to him it could have fallen on BOTH of them. Or it could have fallen on someone else if neither the mother or child were standing there.

We have no clue WHY the mirror fell - but it did.

You're welcome. Don't back down. I see nothing in your remarks that are close to what some are saying about you preening or being superior. You have commented on your upbringing and how you raised you children. It worked. And at age 3, they can be so cute and lovable, but they surely cannot be trusted to be out of sight even for a moment. They are too curious about their surroundings.

Like what? You have to be kidding. It was a different time and place 50 years ago. It does NOT compare to now.

Bingo! I just wish more freepers would take this to heart before jumping on the mother..

But N3, I DID jump on the mother, remember?. My views are up for discussion, that's all.
