I haven't seen any public information on that yet

Probably nothing official yet. We have heard that she offered assistance for the civilian population that has been displaced and that the U.S. expects that Lebanon not Hezbollah would be the one to sign any future cease fire.

If that is what they are turning down then we don't have to worry about an end to this thing any time soon. You can't have a cease fire unless there is someone to sign the document and we won't let that someone be Hezbollah.

A list acceptable to Israel, unacceptable to Lebanon, ghastly from the Syrian, Hezbollian, and Iranian POV, and handsome enough enough to allow Bush and Abdullah to say "we tried" with a straight face.

Within those guidelines, the details themselves are unimportant.

Israel also is battling Hamas-backed militiamen in the Gaza Strip claiming to hold an Israeli soldier missing since an ambush last month.(AP)

There are no quote marks in that sentence, I also wonder if AP 'claims' to be a true news organization.

Chuck Nash on Fox citing multiple media reports of Farsi being spoken on the front lines in Lebanon.

Although I'd be very surprised if there weren't a lot of Iranians guiding the local terrorists in Lebanon they may not be the only Farsi speakers there. The first comment to this post at Captain's Quarters claims "Hizbollah in Lebanon, is a totally Shia, mainly ethnic Persian organization (Iranian Shias have been settling and inter-marrying in the Lebanese mountains for 200+ years, with their fellow Shia's there)" and the poster sounds like he knows what he's writing. This is the first I'd heard that Hizbollah in Lebanon not only wasn't Sunni but also mainly wasn't Arab. One more reason the usual suspects haven't jumped to their support if true.

As Chairman Mao put it, the civilian population is the water, and the insurgent is the fish.

Israel is blowing the dams up left and right, Hezbollah is more and more flopping on the newly created beaches, high and dry, and the Iran/Syrian puppet masters are wafting about in the deeps, unaware of the fish finder devices working overtime.

They always do that. The lead in a typical AP piece goes something like this:

7 Palestinians were senselessly slaughtered in a wanton Israeli missle attack on what Israel claims was a b0mb factory.

Just getting back and catching up, but keep an eye on the following for news of pro-Hezb rallies:

AhlulBayt Discussion Forum/North/Central/South America.

Also watch the hard left/socialist/communist websites for news. They always join and very often actually organize the NA rallies - just as they did with the immigration rallies.

I can't imagine why Karen would go to Muslim nations to promote Islam as a religion of peace...

I think it was more to promote the White House stance that Islam is a religion of peace

FWIW..whatever Karen Hughes was supposed to accomplish overseas seems to have been a failure, unfortunately

I think if it was a failure it was because no matter how much you try to reach out to so-called moderates, they will always see us as the "Great Satan"

I would have rather seen her go to Israel first, just for the perception of it if nothing else. I also wonder if we are gonna send humanitarian aid to the Israeli's, being that there are so many Israeli's in bomb shelters and not working, etc.

In the meantime, unless Bush and company are working on an additional Security Council Resolution, indicting Iran and Syria for instigating this whole mess, to be presented along with sanctions on Iran regarding their illegal nuclear weapons program, they are missing a bet, and not utilizing their time effectively.

One major benefit Iran and Syria gained from creating this whole mess was reduced attention during the G8 conference.

That decision should come back to haunt them, in spades. Whether a new Resolution passes or fails is immaterial, the point is to make the worm squirm before you put him on the hook, and let the world see what runs out as it is impaled.

Sooner or later, we will confront Iran, unless they confront us first. Failure to lay the all the groundwork possible, ahead of time, will end up costing more American lives in that inevitable conflict.

It's just the usual "Arab Pride" routine. He's playing to the crowd. There probably weren't any specific proposals, other than a general observation that if Lebanon did its job they wouldn't be in this mess.

The Arab method of negotiation consists of rejecting any offers, making claims to be in charge and dictating the terms, while the real dealing happens in the background. Take a look at the language used in the regular flow of comments from those governments, you'll see "we demand", "we'll allow", "we reject", etc. You'll never see them saying, "hey, that sounds like a good compromise".

They have to be seen to be in charge, that's just a characteristic way of propping up their fragile egos.

So, "We would never allow that", essentially means "we're thinking it over." Even if they haven't been presented anything to think over yet.
