(Vanity) Peace treaty between Lebanon & Israel in the making, to be signed by December 2006

Here is a best case scenario for the outcome of the Israel-Hezbollah war: "Lebanon signs a peace treaty with Israel". To make that happen, let me make a few suggestions:

1. Ask all media outlets to stop requesting that the USA & Israel talk with Hezbollah. We should be talking and negotiating with the Lebanese government. Hezbollah are a bunch of thugs. Many Lebanese hate them but are afraid. Syria disarmed all Lebanese except Hezbollah.
2. Warn Syria in no uncertain terms: Behind the scenes, warn then to not interfere or they will face massive destruction.
3. Make sure Israel bombs only Hezbollah areas. Isolate them while the rest of the country (Christians & Sunnis) are living in peace.
4. Work with the Lebanese Government to sign a peace treaty with Israel. Let's stop talking about a cease fire only and start talking about a peace treaty. Many Lebanese, especially Christians, would jump at the idea. Many Sunnis would as well.
To do so, Lebanese must assert control over all their territories including Hezbollah areas and Palestinian camps. Both are states within states, and Arabs have pressured Lebanon to allow a proxy war to be waged from Lebanese territiories. Exerting control would require help from outside because the Lebanese moderates cannot do it alone. In addition, there should be extreme pressure on Syria from ALL countries to back off and quit supplying arms to leftist Lebanese.
In return, (1) Israel would vacate the Shebaa farms if it is agreed that Lebanon owns it, (2) Nato & the USA would guarantee security for Lebanon as long as Lebanon keeps peace with Israel (like Jordan and Egypt) and as long as the Lebanese-Israeli border is calm and normalized and as long as it is a democratic secular state with no Islamic extremism, and (3) Lebanon would receive massive aid for reconstruction and ongoing annual aid from the USA and Europe.

The result would leave only ONE Israeli border to be solved - the Palestinian border.

When the peace treaty is signed, let's sit down to a tasty Falafel sandwich and some great tabbouli salad and baklava.

Here is a better idea.

Kill off as many Hezbollah as possible.
Kill off as many Hamas as possible.
Tell Iran if Israel is attacked again, Iran will become a non-oil producing country.
Put NATO security forces on the Lebanese/Syrian border.
Tell the Palestinians that if they want peace, they will disarm. Then lob a few shells into Gaza to remind them of their mortality.

Now... Time for Falaffel.

Many in Lebanon want a peace treaty. Read below an interview with 3 Christian youths:

In Sassin Square in the Christian neighborhood of Ashrafiyeh, an engraving of Bashir Gemayel, a right-wing Christian militia leader elected president, then assassinated in 1982, looked out at sporadic traffic.
At Afandem Restaurant sat three Christian youths, agitated and angry. "If I'm supposed to respect Nasrallah, he should respect me. If he respects us, I respect him," said Fadi Geagea, a 21-year-old student, smoking a cigarette. "To be honest, he's not respecting us."
Fadi Geagea and his friends say they know what Lebanon is now becoming: a Shiite fiefdom of Hezbollah. And to stop Hezbollah, to take away its weapons, to diminish its influence, they were willing to see Israel attack their country.
"If we don't have weapons, then no one should have weapons. If Hezbollah keeps its weapons, then why shouldn't we have them?" asked 21-year-old Joseph Muhanna. His friends nodded.

"They need to either surrender their weapons or have their heads cracked," said 18-year-old George Khouri.

They argued about various Christian leaders. One slapped the other, more in play than anger. They differed on whether Nasrallah should be killed. But they agreed about Lebanon's identity and what the future would hold.

"Islam is controlling us, and we've known that for a long time," said Khouri, wearing a cross crafted as an emblem of a Christian party. "Lebanon is a Christian country. We're steadfast, and one day we'll be in charge of Lebanon again."

Don't think so. First of all its not Lebanon thats teh problem. It's a ratical gang called Hammas and Hizbollah. Stopping them is like stopping the Crips and the Bloods. Impossible. They are a heavily armed gurilla militia This whole thing is a deversion "rope-a-dope by Iran. Make Israel spend up valuable resources long enough to weaken it. Iran hopes to get just 1 A-bomb done to hit Tel-Aviv to rally Arab support for a full Islamic revolt, knowing that Iran from a land mass stand point can take alot of pounding, verses Israel that can't. We are taking our eyes off the ball by ignoring Iran. Now is the time to go in and crush them before they pull this off!

Good points. I don't see any baklava, but what are those brown egg-shaped things on the left?

The brown balls are falafel, a vegeterian mix of beans that is deep fried and served in a sandwich with a sauce similar to a gyro sauce.
Both the Falafel and the more familiar Gyros (called shawarma) are the two national sandwiches of Lebanon, similar to our Hamburger and hot dog in the States.

Lebanese need to strengthen their country. You will get aid, but that can be debilitating. Work to strengthen it yourselves.

I think that is a great idea!! Israel and Lebanon want peace but Hizballah wants war. Isolation is a good strategy.

In 1983 Israel and Lebanon tried to get one done but Syria stopped that.
