The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps calls itself a "project of the Declaration Alliance," although few MCDC volunteers know what the alliance does or why Minuteman donations are routed through the charity founded and headed by conservative activist Alan Keyes.
Several Minuteman leaders and members questioned the wisdom of ceding control over fundraising to the Herndon-based Declaration Alliance, part of an intricate weave of conservative organizations founded and chaired by Mr. Keyes or tied to longtime Keyes associates working with MCDC.
MCDC President Chris Simcox told The Washington Times that the alliance offers "an experienced organization for mass mailings, advertising and public relations" and the ability to conduct a "fully accredited and independent audit" of MCDC finances.
Mr. Simcox said he "checked these people out very carefully before agreeing to work with them" and that he made the "correct decision" in hiring "clean professional consultants, accountants and media professionals." He did not, however, disclose during an interview last week or in a 3,961-word follow-up statement how much Declaration Alliance and its affiliated organizations have been paid for their services
During the interview, he said, "Not one cent of MCDC money has been spent on alliance projects." The statement, released on the MCDC Web page, www.minutemanhq.com/hq/, does not mention Declaration Alliance or Mr. Keyes. ...."
"..Diener Consultants first contacted the Minuteman organization in early 2005, said Ms. Hair, the MCDC spokeswoman who also was a top adviser to Mr. Keyes in his presidential and senatorial races. She said she called Mr. Simcox after the Minuteman group was created to ask whether he had a media plan. After being told no, she said, she met with Mr. Simcox and Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist in Washington and signed an agreement...."

Just because you assert it doesn't make it so.
I'm not the one defending Simcox's shoddy financial records, which he hasn't denied.
You really think they'd hire him to defend them here?
I think he's here to defame them.
Remember the story of Brer Rabbit?
nah.
Let's say there is a history between an individual in the story and an individual posting on this thread.
What was the last job Mr. Keyes ever had?
What Hairs around goes around.
She was right about one thing. -- Clinton was a liar.
Not much else, but hey---
So I could not have been making you specifically a subject.
I began to understand problem profiteers when I began to understand people like Larry Klayman and Alan Keyes; they say the things you want to hear in order for you to send them money, yet they get very little done..except make money for themselves.
It's that whole idea of Booker T. Washington applied to today:
"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs."
There are people out there profiteering, on both sides of the political spectrum, by advertising the wrongs they understand people are concerned with, and making those concerns pay off via donations.
When I believe I identify one, I will make my opinion known.
FR has exposed a lot of frauds over the years and some of them from the right. This is nothing more than us policing our own.
Are you suggesting that I have some sort of an agenda that would make me smear this cause?
What cause exactly?
In telling the truth as I see it about people profiteering from a cause I am making a statement about those people, not about the cause, but you are AGAIN making suggestions that in my questioning the individual, I am casting aspersions in the cause itself.
The individual is NOT that cause, the cause is the cause, and questioning individuals who may seek to profit from the cause is standing up for the cause.
You need to get that straight.
Exactly.
Who would hire anyone so incompetent?
Keyes is a bright man.
Bright enough to get stomped in Illinois.....
I have no answer to your question, Luis, because its not about you.
Besides, YOU responded to ME.
Illinois wasn't about getting elected. It was about keeping his name in front of the public so all his web pages would keep getting hits.
Especially the donation pages.
There are a 12 other MM/Border groups. There is even a Gilchrist MM thread HERE , planning a mass border action with the 11 other groups. (Simcox's group is not invited to join, btw, which speaks volumes)
You are wrong. The criticism here of Simcox is specific, and not against other MM groups.
And, for the upteenth time, no one here is for "open borders".
So why did you point me to your #70?
Leni
