The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps calls itself a "project of the Declaration Alliance," although few MCDC volunteers know what the alliance does or why Minuteman donations are routed through the charity founded and headed by conservative activist Alan Keyes.
Several Minuteman leaders and members questioned the wisdom of ceding control over fundraising to the Herndon-based Declaration Alliance, part of an intricate weave of conservative organizations founded and chaired by Mr. Keyes or tied to longtime Keyes associates working with MCDC.
MCDC President Chris Simcox told The Washington Times that the alliance offers "an experienced organization for mass mailings, advertising and public relations" and the ability to conduct a "fully accredited and independent audit" of MCDC finances.
Mr. Simcox said he "checked these people out very carefully before agreeing to work with them" and that he made the "correct decision" in hiring "clean professional consultants, accountants and media professionals." He did not, however, disclose during an interview last week or in a 3,961-word follow-up statement how much Declaration Alliance and its affiliated organizations have been paid for their services
During the interview, he said, "Not one cent of MCDC money has been spent on alliance projects." The statement, released on the MCDC Web page, www.minutemanhq.com/hq/, does not mention Declaration Alliance or Mr. Keyes. ...."
"..Diener Consultants first contacted the Minuteman organization in early 2005, said Ms. Hair, the MCDC spokeswoman who also was a top adviser to Mr. Keyes in his presidential and senatorial races. She said she called Mr. Simcox after the Minuteman group was created to ask whether he had a media plan. After being told no, she said, she met with Mr. Simcox and Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist in Washington and signed an agreement...."

Well until they reach management positions and ask him questions.
bttt
Must be why EV told me Allen is a "shoo-in" for the nomination.
He knows his own track record.
How would they be, if donations to the parent organization are not tax deductible?
Sounds as if you had a great time! We missed you! :-)
The Alliance is the activist or advocate organization, meant to actively influence political policy and legislation The Foundation is a nonprofit educational organization that takes no positions on candidates or elections. DAPAC is simply the political action committee arm of DA.
The PAC includes as one of its goals the defeat of "RINOS"?
Good Lord. Talk about pandering to the extremists and rr.
ps: I wonder if their goals have ever been rewritten over the years.
I thought this whole line of argument started because catholicfreeper found that she is the one who has the Minuteman trademark registered, according to a website run by the state of Arizona?
Is the state of Arizona running "moonbat websites" now?
Yes, it's the branch that supposedly the MCDC is under. But donations to DA are not tax-deductible.
ps: I wonder if their goals have ever been rewritten over the years.
Don't know. Maybe they need to let the FEC know that they are now advocating for the election and defeat of specific candidates?
I really think American Caging is the key especially after spending about 2 hours looking at the oddest race I have seen in a while. That is that Republican primary in West Virgina. Where this weridness is American Caging is there.
You know it. Don't forget the association between Keyes and Judge Moore, their tour across the country, and Moore's association with the evangelical shyster in Florida, whose name escapes me (but who paid for and installed the Ten Commandments memorial and encouraged Moore not to give in to the law).
There used to be audio available online where the preacher talked about having personal meetings with the IRS brass and seemed to be saying he was able to influence decisions that affected his nonprofits in Florida (where he was raking in millions)--he encouraged his followers to pressure the IRS on his (religious nonprofit) behalf.
These types have proven that politics and religion DO mix when the rr can be hooked with the right bait and convinced to support certain causes (which always seem to require donations to "make a difference").
I just looked up some old stuff I posted on another site in 2003 and 2004, regarding this same topic.
The Keyes sites were down for several months, and when they came back up they'd been redesigned to include links to religiously themed sites and orgs that weren't there before.
The Declaration Foundation launched something called "One Nation Under God", which then had links to visionamerica, restore the commandments, and America21. Many of these orgs and leadership were associated with the Constitution Party. I don't know if OneNation is still out there, or active.
I think part of the problem is that the donors are basically good people who tend to see believe that others (at least those who proclaim to share their values) are as honest and sincere as they themselves are, and they are very reluctant to think that these groups might not be doing what they say they are doing.
Then we get the "so what if they're crooks - they're our crooks!" mentality....
Fine words - I can hardly disagree.
I will read your future posts on ths subject with renewed interest, and if I could use clarification on any points you may make, I hope you will oblige.
as long as they're digger deeper, don't you think they could put in a few fence posts while they're at it?
So when illegal immigrants began once again to cross his ranch near the end of 2005, Ladd was ready to give the Minutemen another chance though he wasnt interested in the 14-foot, Israeli-style barrier the group was pushing.
They have to be more aware of how they present themselves, Ladd said of the Minutemen. Theyre doing a good job, but they should put up a picture of our fence (on the groups Web site). The Israeli design just gives the critics fuel. Ladd Fence -
When he tried to get federal authorities to fix the fence, Ladd said he was told barbed wire was useless in stopping human traffic, and so the government was not interested in replacing it.
I'm confused here. I don't know why the Minuteman fence is better than the barbed wire fence Ladd already had that was being cut regularly. Indeed, the Minuteman fence has already been cut, according to news reports, but Ladd says it's working?
I told them, If you want to put up a barbed-wire fence with a vehicle barrier, lets do it, Ladd said.
I didn't think the vehicle barrier was installed yet? Will a vehicle barrier keep out cows?
Well it was a "free" fence after all. He can afford to make more repairs. Did you read the part about him running the Minutemen off his ranch earlier? I think Ladd may have out-conned Simcox.
I feel better already for our international relations. Poor American Cows will not become illegal aliens in Mexico and We will keep out all those Mexican cows out. Thank God for the donors
After political cartoonist Ted Rall published his "Terror Widows" cartoon (link) suggesting the widows of men killed in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks were motivated by greed, Keyes responded with an essay titled "Shunning the intolerable." Keyes compared Rall to a pornographer and suggested he be fired and "shunned by all." Keyes wrote, "Should such a cartoonist be punished, arrested? Shot at dawn?" He wrote, "it is worth remembering that when serious and sustained attempts to undermine public opinion on a matter genuinely essential to national life cannot be resisted by other means, governmental action may be necessary" and "we should not tolerate those who seek to debase our judgment and destroy our unity and resolve."
Wasn't there just a huge controversy because Ann Coulter said the same thing Ted Rall had said earlier?
