Defying the will of Congress (remember these votes in November!), President Bush sent a veto message (read the president's message here), that he would not sign HR 810, the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005."
President Bush addressed the situation in Lebanon while meeting with members of Congress in the White House.
Secretary of State Rice met at the State Department today: New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peres, and Belgium's Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht. Next week she is scheduled to attend Southeast Asia's top security forum.
Good one.
I saw a photo on Drudge of a woman who pulled her sandal up off the British pavement with strings of melted pavement between the sole and the street, like melted cheese being pulled up on a pizza. Yow.
:)
Apologies for leaving LUGAR off the list of Pubbie Senators who voted for this thing...so far I see I left off Burr and Lugar. Maybe I should re-post it.
If any senator is so misguided as to believe the tripe that is being put out about the supposed neccesity for this type of research that kills the embryo, something is wrong. Maybe Frist got to him, being the Majority leader and all. Who knows?
neccesity = necessity
Doctor/Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma voted no. The science is not so much on the side of this bill, but that is not what is being sold to people.
Now I see where GREGG of NH also voted for it. Okay, I'm going to repost the list of baddies (on this particular issue). Including the 3 I omitted last night. I'll also post the link to the senate.gov page.

I just saw it--that was very sweet of you. I'm honored to be a part of your page :)
(And I saved the hug gif :-D)
I assume Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold also voted in favor of the stem cell bill? Both are Democrats from Wisconsin.
Single issue voters do not need to be a majority.. A minority on both parties is enough to cause candidate in both parties dance to their tune.
@@@@@
You are correct about single issues being deal-breakers for various voters. My contention really is that "70%" is a made-up number. 70% of Americans have NO opinion of expanding-federally-funded-embryonic-stem-cell-research. The entire phrase is long, and rarely said in full by media, and I would bet not said in full when pollsters collect their data.
Remember 50% of Americans have double digit IQs. It is to be hoped that many of them fall in the category of "did not vote."
I don't know ... this particular poster has a 1998 sign-up, not that that would prevent someone from acting like a troll.
Ohio, Just A Nobody and some others correctly pointed out that the guy was acting like a liberal, putting his faith in government to fix everything. And, like a liberal, the guy became unhinged when confronted by that fact. (He kept screaming about zygotes.)
BTW, I suspect that this guy and an "irish" poster on that thread might be the same person.
Am I wrong to strongly wish Condi Rice, our esteemed USA representative for the State Department, would wear her skirts a little longer.
I have absolute appreciation for her and respect, but it has to be a distraction for other dignitaries to sit across from her with all that leg exposure.
Call me old fashion or flame me, but that's what I think!!!!
Leave the short skirts for the FOX chics & all of Hollywood...
..I wish our S of S skirts were a bit more dignified.
Thanks for the ping and for posting the DOSE.
I found one more reason to love GWB!
He saved his VETO power for a GOOD cause!
Defending innocent life in whatever form it takes.
Part of the tarmac on our industrial estate melted yesterday.
I'm still working on a possible visit to England next July :o)
"I'm honored to be a part of your page :)"
I'm glad. & honored to have you there!
"(And I saved the hug gif :-D)"
Have at it!
Though to explain the context,
that is my bookend piece
that I found to match my starter rose...
So every visitor /latest entry
gets the rose hugs greeting.
But do consider yourself so very much
hugged and welcome to that gif too!
Hi Jonny, thanks for the ping. So we had a troll make an appearance. Ha! They will never learn. :)
You're right about someone's sign-up date not having any relevance to how they behave. Leftists aren't the only people who hate GWB. Many on the far-Right fringe also do.
FR sign-up dates can be misleading. Take my personal experience for example. I found FR in 1997, lurked for awhile and then signed up. But in those early days, before the programming underlying the site was stablized and the site wasn't as secure as it is today, it would crash from time to time. My experience was that sometimes when it crashed I would have to re-register. One other long-time FReeper told me he didn't have that experience, so maybe it was a hit or miss thing.
Anyway, by late summer of 1998, the crashing problems were resolved and the site became stable. It's my understanding that's why many long-time FReepers have 1998 sign-up dates. I don't remember why mine is September 1999, but I had been on a number of short-term contracts at the time and may have failed to re-register at some point when I needed to. But I've always used the same screen name here.
The point being that we really can't tell anything by a sign-up date.
Jonny, re the possibility that this troll and another poster might be the same person, Peach and I are certain some of that is going on here. Maybe not a lot, but some. With two (or more) phone lines, two ISPs, and two PCs, anyone can sit in a room and play those kinds of games totally undetected.
I do not think you are wrong, Guenevere. I don't know that Sec. Rice's skirts should be longer, but I do think she should cross her legs at the ankle not at the knee like she does. I've been taught that a lady should always cross her legs at the ankle, especially with a skirt on. Kate
