Syrian Ambassador Imad Mustafa walks out of MSNBC studio to avoid joint TV appearance with Israeli counterpart Danny Ayalon. We used to sit next to each other in the makeup room and chat. Now he runs away from me like from fire, Ayalon says
WASHINGTON - Syrian Ambassador to the United States, Imad Mustafa, walked out of an MSNBC studio in Washington Friday after Israel Ambassador Danny Ayalon suggested the two appear together on a news broadcast. The man ran away, producers of the interview program informed, chuckling.
Mustafa may have been concerned that he would lose his position, considering an incident Wednesday when Lebanese Ambassador to Washington, Farid Abboud, was recalled to Lebanon after expressing support for Hizbullah during an interview with CNN, contrary to the Lebanese governments official position.
Ayalon and his Syrian counterpart have been running from one TV studio to the next in recent days, waging public relations battles. The two have appeared in no less than 12 consecutive TV interviews over the past few days. With that, Mustafa has made sure not to sit next to the Israeli diplomat in the studios, nor even in the makeup rooms.
Ayalon said that In the past, we used to sit next to each other in the makeup room and chat. Mustafa is a professor, a member of the scientific academy in Damascus, an educated and well mannered man, a personal friend and appointment of President Basher Assad. We used to shake hands and talk. This time he is surrounded by people from the Syrian embassy and runs away from me like from fire, he said.
The Israeli ambassador, who appeared in a live interview on NBC, asked the interviewer why he and the Syrian ambassador were being filmed in two separate studios. Ask him if he will sit in the same studio as me, Ayalon added. The interviewer passed the balled into Mustafas court on live TV, and he mumbled embarrassedly that innocent people were being killed in Lebanon.
During the commercial break, the interviewer asked Ayalon if he would appear in the same studio as his Syrian counterpart and he agreed. However, shortly afterwards, the shows producers informed him that the Syrian ambassador, when he was asked to come into the common studio, responded, No, no, no, and hurriedly walked out of the studio.
The two ambassadors were scheduled to appear in their 13th interview on CNN Larry King Live.
Like it or not, in thew interests of saving time, and not having to look up designations for the myriad of cruise missiles possessed by Iran, I have and will continue to refer to all Iranian cruise missiles as Silkworms.
Sorry if it offends you, feel free to correct me at any time, but don't expect a response until this is all over.
Maybe Chirac was in the men's room when they took the vote. Brian Wilson just read the statement from the G-8, it said no such thing.
US now calling for a ceasefire? Looks like Israel's "window" is closing...
Iranian Fajr Missiles Used in Haifa Attack
20:05 Jul 16, '06 / 20 Tammuz 5766(IsraelNN.com) The rockets which caused death and destruction in Haifa on Sunday morning contained parts made in Syria, according to security officials.
They were, however, Iranian-made 220 mm Fajr missiles, with a range of 40 kilometers, security sources said.
In a statement read on al-Manar TV, Hizbullahs television station, the terrorist organization said it had fired a salvo of Raad-2 and Raad-3 rockets.
The terror organization added that it would target petrochemical plants in Haifa if the IDF continued air strikes in Beirut.
Hezbollah did place all their weaponry/missiles in civilian apartment buildings and even hotels throughout Lebanon. This is why Israel has been dropping leaflets telling civilians to get out, they are going to take out those site, even in civilian areas... their objective is to crush Hezbollah once and for all and they are willing to take the flak...
The problem is, these civilians doing the blogging may know or they may not know why they are being bombed and I wonder if the world readers should actually be filling them in with facts?????
- Chirac STRELNA (ST. PETERSBURG). July 16 (Interfax) - Leaders of the Group of Eight member states have approved a statement on the situation in the Middle East condemning bloodshed and military actions, French president Jacques Chirac said.
The statement condemns the escalation of violence and calls for the normalization of the situation and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, the president said at a briefing on Sunday in Strelna.
Ceasefire with conditions:
FIRST- Kidnapped soldiers handed over to Israel
SECOND-Hezbollah stops firing rockets
THIRD- AFTER that is done then Isreal stops.
First two won't happen so the war will keep going.
Yes...Burbank Karl may have a LONG thread today.
Did you see Mike Tobin in that garage? They have proof these missiles (at least that missile) came from Syria. Syria puts small round balls into their missiles to create more schraptnel; he had a handful of those balls in his hand to show the world the proof.
You have more faith in DUmocrats than I do...anyone with any sense has left the party long ago.

STRELNA (near St. Petersburg), July 16 (RIA Novosti) - G8 leaders adopted a statement on the situation around the Middle East, calling upon the parties in the conflict to stop violence and bring the situation in Gaza and Lebanon back to normal.
French President Jacques Chirac said the leaders of the Group of Eight industrialized nations supported a UN decision to send a liaison mission to the conflict zone in order to draw a clear picture of the current crisis. The French leader also said the G8 was calling for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
The French leader said the main goal of the mission was to determine ways to release Israeli hostages kept by Hamas and Hizbollah and normalize the situation in the region.
He also said G8 leaders reaffirmed the necessity of revitalized talks with the President of the Palestinian National Administration Mahmoud Abbas.
Chirac said G8 considered Lebanese government's loss of control over its territory unacceptable and criticized all forces that challenged the government's authority in the country as a destabilizing factor.
Following the new wave of violence in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that the abduction of two Israeli soldiers by Hizbollah Wednesday could have been designed, among other things, to frustrate dialogue within Lebanon and added he did not rule out further provocations in the conflict zone.
Israel started a military operation in Lebanon after the abduction of its soldiers, including launching air strikes Lebanon's infrastructure facilities, while also bombing the Gaza Strip.
