London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat says Israel gave Syria 72 hours to stop Hizbullahs activity, bring about release of kidnapped IDF troops. Israel will not end military activity until new situation created that will prevent Syria, Iran from using terror organizations to threaten its security, newspaper quotes Pentagon official as saying Roee Nahmias
The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday that Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullahs activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.
The report said a senior Pentagon source warned that should the Arab world and international community fail in the efforts to convince
Syria to pressure Hizbullah into releasing the soldiers and halt the current escalation Israel may attack targets in the country.
Al-Hayat quoted the source as saying that the US cannot rule out the possibility of an Israeli strike in Syria, this despite the fact that the Bush administration has asked Israel to refrain from any military activity that may result in civilian casualties.
'Hizbullah made the same mistake'
The report also mentioned that President George W. Bush has repeatedly put much of the blame for the recent escalation on Syria.
It is no coincidence that the Hizbullah operation comes at a time when the international community is working to impose sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear program and settle the score with Syria by establishing an international court to try those behind the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the Pentagon source said.
According to the source, Hizbullah made the same mistake as Hamas when it did not predict the ramifications of its actions and ignored the regional and international changes since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
The source said that Israel has indicated that it will not end its military activity until a new situation is created that will prevent Syria and Iran from using terror organizations, such as Hamas and Hizbullah, to threaten its security.
Basically Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and others don't want to become vassal states of Iran. Hezbollah is clearly an Iranian puppet.
Even so, Israel has got Hezbollah on the run and is flushing out rocket sites and exposing Iranian involvement.
This is significant and will strengthen its case in coming days.
The rest of Syria is insignificant. All Israel has to do is to capture Damascus. Its pretty damn close. Its like driving from Washington D.C. To Philadephia.
It always made me wonder why does that loon in Iran wear westernized clothes? Although he hates the West, his apperance seems to be secular to me.
Its called shaping or preparing the battlefield. The IAF is making it difficult for Hizbolla to move around. This also provideds time for the called ground units to link up and move to their designated assembly areas. Probably within the next 72 hours we'll see the ground attack begin.
And while they are at it, do a fly by of North Korea for good measure.
Probably in an effort to reach out to fence-sitting moderates in Arab countries like Egypt.
There's no one that the Sunni hates more than the Shiites, they are viewed as "heretics" in Sunni Islam.
Naturally, I expect and hope there are multiple 2000-lb bombs waiting for this jerk.
100 dollar oil?
Not if we tell the ragheads we will pay 25 dollars a barrel or they will be completely out of busness and oxygen. We have the power to do this. We dot not have the gonads though.
Israel cannot take the Bekaa Valley before taking Damascus without leaving their right flank exposed. Therefore, Syria must be goaded into attacking through southern Lebanon by constant attrition of Hezbollah in the north from the air. When Syria attacks (They won't be able to help themselves because of the blind rage of the radicals.), then Israel can take Damascus. Within a day or two, the US can enter the eastern desert and destroy the terrorist staging areas and proceed across north Syria and down into Lebanon's Bekaa.
After that, the Kurds will no doubt want to join Kurdish northeastern Syria to Kurdistan. (The same will happen to northwestern Iran eventually.)
Perhaps not...
Saudi Arabia is off the "target list" at the moment...
No one should be deluded into believing the birth whore and bank of the virulent Wahhabi sect of Islam can be our "friend"...
Wahhabi Islam and Western civilization are incompatible..
The INSTANT dependence on Arab oil can be diminished, Saudi Arabia comes into "focus"....perhaps before..
We may be forced to kick some ass and take the gas!
Semper Fi
no kidding at all. I think we will see it this summer. $800 gold and $100 oil. still the US is weaning itself off the poison that is sold by so many rabid animals. then we'll see $40 oil again.
the internet is taking people off the streets fast. we don't need to trade with those turd balls.
Interesting post. I think it was pretty stupid for Hezbollah, syria to try to start something like this with the US military in it's rear. Either they are just stupid or somebody is calculating a strategery. I don't know if that somebody is us or Iran et al.
I was astonished when I heard awhile back when Israel was evicting it's own citizens from those settlements to give to the Palis. I can only think that Israel was making a gesture of peace, with the caveat, either expressed or implied, that for now on, Israel would kick muzzi's a$$ bigtime if they pulled anymore stunts...
And perhaps the ceding of Israeli land to the Palis was part of the greater WOT strategy.
I hope he does. Give us the excuse we need to end this madness without having to dither with the United Nothing.
President ammadjehad might be crazy enough to attack the U.S., but I really doubt it.
He's gambling that the anti-war crowd in the U.S. will block any U.S. action. I can hear that crowd now. Bush, the war monger, has been planning this all along. He lied to us...Iran hasn't attacked us...we supported the Shaw...
It's already started to some extent. We can't call their bluff until we know what the support will be at home.
I hope this all comes to a head as it's better to face them now rather than later when they are stronger and more deadly. But, are we ready for $7.00 gas? Are we willing to ration? Somehow I doubt it and so do the Iranians.
Israel is properly raising the bar. Their kidnapped soldiers are dead anyway. Time to kick ass and take names.
