Not terrorism always reported almost immediately.
As long as another building doesn't explode within the next hour I guess we're out of the woods.

gas leak due to townhouse construction is what 1010wins is saying.
That tunnel is south of the accident when it gets to Madison.
1010 WINS newsradio :
An explosion was heard before a fire and collapse at a 3-story building on Manhattan's East Side on Monday, the Fire Department said.
Television reports said people were trapped inside, but fire officials did not immediately confirm that.
Heavy black smoke rose high above the building, wedged between taller structures on 62nd Street between Park and Madison avenues. Damage, including shattered windows, could be seen at one of the adjoining buildings.
The building reportedly housed a doctor's office and a beauty salon.
Streets around the area were closed off to traffic as ambulances and rescue units responded just before 9 a.m.
Witnesses told reporters that they heard a loud explosion, but it wasn't clear whether it was before or after the fire started.

Nadler was there?
After all the talk about people blowing up the tunnel, I feel sorry for New Yorkers, this type of thing has to rattle them.
But it always seems to me that terrorists are looking for high profile targets, and this building doesn't seem to be one.

Con Ed reports that they were investigating "smell of gas" prior to the blast.
Gas leaks can cause some serious devastation. I investigated one once that resulted in the roof of a single family home being blown completely off and landing in a nearby yard. And all the doors and windows were blown out a considerable distance - the front door was sitting on the curb when the firemen arrived.
Turned out it was a deliberate leak for purposes of arson . . . but that's another story!
>>>Probably a gas explosion

No, Larry King :)

Doubt heavy equipment involved, more'n likely a "reno" job. (read; day laborers)

Yes. I'm listening to some being interviewed now. They all said the gas smell was strong.
