Reparations have already been paid in the form of affirmative action and "civil rights" laws. Blacks can improve their situation only by leaving the liberal plantation.

I'm all for giving money as repatriations...
provided the person was alive prior to the Civil War and can prove they were indeed slaves.
Otherwise, forget it.

Of all the useless groups in this country, the Episcopal Church is at the top of the list.
A commission in North Carolina recommends compensation. No doubt the group was stacked with cranks from Chapel Hill and Duke.

Quoting from the article: "Advocates who say black Americans should be compensated for slavery and its Jim Crow aftermath are quietly chalking up victories and gaining momentum."
Because as you say no living Americans were ever slaves or slave owners, the writer broadens the target to include the Jim Crow repression that followed right up until the middle of the last century.
But, as I pointed out, it was the DNC that was the author and defender of Jim Crow laws and the whole repressive apparatus, and once they caved, most black voters joined the DNC, rendering the point moot, in my opinion. The fact that the overwhelming majority joined the DNC demonstrates that they do not consider that party to be still collectively guilty of its past. So I suppose, having voted with their feet, they would agree with you. Any collective guilt I might be willing to ascribe to the DNC, black voters have forgiven. That should settle the issue.
If the DNC isn't "collectively" guilty, no one is.

All I can think of is that Family Guy episode where Peter discovers that one of his ancestors was a slave, sues everyone for reparations, and then blows the money on converting the living room into a replica of Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

But just think what reperations would do for Cadillac division of troubled GM.

There are lots of generalizations about black Americans on this thread, so I feel free to add my own (subject to exceptions, as with all generalizations):
If I were on the front lines and the Sergeant sent me into battle, telling me to take Dashawn Green or Ali Hajeeb, I'd take Dashawn every time.
I find your post extremely hypocritical. You criticize popular(not mine) views of black Americans on FR ( Eg laziness, crime etc) but in the next breath act like a KKK Grand Wizard and turn on people with Arabic names. Sure wipe out terrorists and their supporters but their are a large number of patriotic Americans of Arab descent most of them followers of Christ. How can you possibly argue against unfair generalizations of black Americans whilst wholeheartedly claiming that blacks are superior to americans with Arabic names. You remind me of the slave that was forgiven his debts by his master but turned on his inferior slave who was in a much worse position than himself and refused to forgive him of his meager debt. Bottom line you shouldn't advocate a positive image of black American's many achievements by putting down those lower on the social food chain . BTW I am not arabic but personally know many decent lebanese descent people.

Dr. Charlotte A. Twight in her "Dependent on D.C." book & other economic analysts estimate the welfare payments and other social subsidies provided since President Johnson's Great Society exceed
$ 6 Trillion.
Isn't this enough? In addition to the lives lost during the Civil War?

That's not what's important. THIS is what's important. Eventually, in 2008, Hillary will be forced to take a stand on Reparations. Possibly against a Condi or Rudy. We win that debate hands down.

The deficiency in your argument is that much of that six trillion went to subsidies for whites and other minorities as well as blacks.
True,a higher PROPORTION probably went to blacks but if you lived in San Francisco or Berkeley in the late Sixties, you would have seen many very white and very healthy looking hippies and their"old ladies"paying for their groceries with food stamps.

"Eventually, in 2008, Hillary will be forced to take a stand on Reparations."
From:
http://issues2002.org/Domestic/Hillary_Clinton_Civil_Rights.htm
"Hillary Clinton on Civil Rights"
Q: "Will you support reparations for African-Americans?"
CLINTON: "We have mental, emotional and psychological reparations to pay first. We have to admit that we haven't always treated people in our own country fairly. We have some issues that we have to address when it comes to racial justice right now. I'm willing to work hard to be a strong advocate for Civil Rights and human rights here at home and around the world. I want to do everything I can to make sure that the programs and policies that have helped generations of African-Americans have a better life in this country continue. I think we should be focused on the present and on the future. We owe an apology to African-Americans for hundreds of years of slavery."

Well, if it comes to that then I would have some stipulations:
1) No More Minority status
2) No More Affirmative Action
3) No More Scholastic advantages that are strictly based on race
4) No more ANYTHING that divides people along racial lines. In fact, I would erase this constraint from all public books where race is being considered as a criteria for any government benefit or service.
How much you want to bet they will never give government benefits up no matter how much money anybody give them. Why? Because it's not about equality anymore. It's about payback.
