A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

All of you have posted such lovely tributes. I feel like all I have to offer are tears. I am surprised at the amount of tears. Last year was a hard year for me. I don't know how our LadyX knew it, but she somehow figured out I needed her stories and her love and every day there would be some lesson learned or some trouble overcome, some expression of her wisdom and care waiting for me when I checked in. It really was an awesome thing. Her gifts were the forever kind. Thanks be to God for this wonderful Lady. I'm so sorry we had to say goodbye.

Family Therapy

If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. —1 Corinthians 12:26

Dr. Paul Brand, a medical missionary in India, observed an unusual phenomenon with several of his patients. When they were recovering from surgery in his hospital, some family members would bring hot meals to them. At night a relative would sleep on the floor under the bed of the recovering patient. When patients awoke in pain, their loved ones would gently massage them until they went back to sleep.

At first Dr. Brand thought this was inappropriate and unsanitary. Over time, however, he began to notice that the patients receiving this loving care from family needed less pain medication. They were being soothed by people who loved them. This “family therapy” brought the warmth and care of home into an unfamiliar place.

We can learn from this example of love and care for our family. Those who belong to Christ are part of a spiritual family and need to be aware of the hurts of other members. The apostle Paul said, “If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26). This principle requires that we find practical ways of soothing hurts. Do you know a Christian brother or sister who needs “family therapy” from you? Dennis Fisher

A caring heart, a listening ear,
A thoughtful word, a gentle tear
Will help to lift the heavy load
Of weary souls along life’s road.  —D. De Haan

To ease another’s burden, help carry it.

I was so saddened to learn of our sweet maggie's passing but am comforted to know that she is no longer in pain and is embraced in the arms of our lord. She was such a special friend to so many of us and will be truly missed at the Finest. (((((hugs))))) to you all.

Hi. First of all, that is the most beautiful picture of flowers I've ever seen. It's three dimensional. I would love to have the camera that made that pic.

I made it through preaching today because I did'nt talk about Sistah. I just reported that she had passed away and thanked them for their prayers. I didn't sleep much last night. And......

When another friend of mine passed away, she was a member of my congregation, so I had to center the sermon around her the next Sunday. I put in the sermon the illustration that when we were children we would find a penny on the playground and shout, "Finders keepers, losers weepers!" My friend was a keeper but we had lost her and Jesus found her. When I arrived at the church that morning and stepped out of my car, there at my feet was the shinyest penny you ever saw sparkling at my feet. Make of that what you will. I felt that Karen had arranged for it to be there for all of us.

Today, I stayed after services to copy some fliers. Everyone was gone by the time I finished. I locked the church and started down the steps, and there on the step was a dime, sparkling like a diamond. My first thought was, "I will put it in the collection plate next Sunday. But then it hit me that Sistah may have arranged it and I had better keep it. Believe what you will. It comforted me.

Your tears are precious. Thank you for letting Maggie come into your life and making it better. She had a sixth sense about people's needs and was always there for them with her wisdom. I think a lot of us have cried buckets. Your post made me start again.

I too have just learned the sad news of Lady X' passing.

My heart hurts and grieves for all who knew her. Though we never met, her kind and beautiful words always touched my heart and lifted my spirit.

I am proud to have known her for however brief a time.... I salute her for her service to our nation as a MARINE!!

God Bless her!

What perfect words for today.. LadyX ,of course, did this. I thanked God on the Prayer thread for the community of posters who shared the concern, the love, the faith, the memories. It is always easier to carry a concern when others are also there.

I am so glad Military Monday will be a tribute to Maggie..
