Today's FEEBLE
YOKE :
A very successful lawyer parked his brand new Lexus in front of the office, ready to show it off to his colleagues.
As he got out, a truck came along too close to the curb and completely tore off the driver's door. Fortunately, a cop in a police car was close enough to see the accident and pulled up behind the Lexus, his lights flashing.
But, before the cop had a chance to ask any questions, the lawyer started screaming hysterically about how his Lexus, which he had just picked up the day before, was now completely ruined and would never be the same, no
matter how the body shop tried to make it new again.
After the lawyer finally wound down from his rant, the cop shook his head in disgust and disbelief. "I can't believe how materialistic you lawyers are," he said.
"You are so focused on your possessions that you neglect the most important things in life."
"How can you say such a thing?" asked the lawyer.
The cop replied, "Don't you even realize that your left arm is missing? It got ripped off when the truck hit you!"
"OH, MY GOD!" screamed the lawyer.
"MY ROLEX!"

I went to Basic at Ft.Leonard Wood (Lost in Woods) in southern Missouri..in June, where it gets hot..and humid in Missouri, so it was really fun to march in hot weather.
From FLW, I went to Ft. Gordan in Augusta, GA. From the stove to the grill, where the humidity is even worse. Yick. But that was in late August to October, so it wasn't bad.
From GA, I went overseas to West Germany (yeah, that long ago). There I was at Ansbach, home of the 1st Armor Division, Old Ironsides. I was assigned to 141 Signal BN, Alpha Company, the Gators! (Go Gators!) I stayed there about 3 1/2 yrs, 6 months of that time somewhere in the desert of Saudi Arabia near the border of Iraq.
After the war (Desert Storm), I got an early out, and went to Army Reserve back here in Columbia and stayed there for the rest of my contract (5 yrs).
Got out in February 1996.
Man, that was a long time ago, but I am glad I served my country.
That's my story and I'm stickin by it ;)
Navy. Long, long time.
I enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in the 32nd (Red Arrow) Infantry Division on 7 July 1964.
I went to Basic and AIT at Ft. Jackson, SC in 1965, three days after graduation from high school.
I went to OCS at Ft. Sill, OK the summer of 1967.
Was I in before email? Heck, I was in when a post card was about 5 cents!
The heaviest vehicle I ever drove was an M-48A1 (Yeah, a gasser!) tank. The largest weapon I ever fired was a 155mm howitzer.
My nickname when I was the XO of a firing battery was "The Duke".
My first parachute jump? I am a Leg...only two things fall from the sky!
I was retired with 30 years commissioned time as a Lieutenant Colonel and yeah, I would do it all over again if I had the chance! Serving my country was an honor and a blessing!
US Navy... IC3 (Interior Communications Electrician)
Great Lakes to San Diego to Charleston to New London to Pearl
1970 to 1973
I joined the Navy because my draft number was 68 and it gave me some control over my military job. I would have spent several years in submarines, but my career was cut short by an injury to my right leg.
I was a bad match for the military anyway. I still don't take instruction very well.
USAF, enlisted and later officer.
Many garden spots in lovely third world countries.
Crew grunt.
Horse holder.
Dog robber.
Went to basic in Orlando, FL - E3 out of boot camp. BE&E, 1st half in Orlando, second half at Great Lakes Naval Training near Chicago. 'A' school in Great Lakes. 'C' school in Dam Neck, Virginia.
Boarded the ship in San Diego, CA and rode her to the duty station in Subic Bay.
Spent 5 1/2 years on the only US warship to ever be homeported out of Subic Bay.
Just over 7 years in the US Navy (Held over for a little over 2 months while waiting for a replacement)
Made the rank of E-6 (FTM1)
Got out because I started a family and couldn't see spending that amount of time away from my children as they grew up.
bookmark.
Nice thread, I'll have to go through it tonight.
Why did you choose that particular branch?
There have been members of my family in the Army since the inception of the republic.
Where did you go to Basic Training?
Ft. Benning, GA
Your first parachute jump...
I was scared as hell at first but then loved every second of it. On the next jump I was anxious for the green light. I made several hundred jumps over the years and still miss it.
The largest weapon you got to use
Mk19 grenade launcher
Did you serve before email?
Yes
I graduated near the top of my Nuclear Power School class (8302) with a 4.5 average grade, and continued my nuclear power training at the S8G (Trident) submarine prototype in Ballston Spa, NY. After initial prototype training I attended Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) school (also at Ballston Spa).
From there I was sent to the pre-commissioning crew for the USS Henry M Jackson, but my orders were almost immediately changed to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). I served on the Ike from 1984 until 1987 when I was transferred to the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) where I served until my EAOS in Feb of 1990.
I entered the Naval Reserve upon my EAOS, and was assigned a reserve billet with NMCB (Naval Mobile Construction Battalion) 5, and was deployed to Saudi Arabia with them from Sept 1990 until April of 1991.
My first landing on an aircraft carrier was when I was flown via Sea Stallion helo from the deck of a supply ship to the deck of the Ike off the coast of southern France during a mistral.
My first parachute jump was when some Nuke School "buddies" talked me into taking sky diving lessons when I was stationed in Orlando.
The heaviest vehicle I got to drive was the USS Theodore Roosevelt (approx 100,000 tons). I was standing a helmsman watch completing my Enlisted Surface Warfare qualifications while underway in the North Atlantic.
The largest weapon I got to use was my fist after being jumped by some unsavory characters while on liberty in Lisbon Portugal. I won.
I did serve before email
My personal nickname "Chief"
Great thread, Sarge!

3rd Bn Fifth Marines - April-August, 1969
In Hospital August 1969 - January 1970

Unlike John Francois Kerry - There is no question about my Honorable Discharge.
I was drafted into the US Army in June, 1967, where I spent "the summer of love" in basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX.
I was surprised NOT to be sent to 'Nam, but was assigned to an Engr detachment at the USMA in West point, then was sent to Neu Ulm, Germany, where I was assigned to HHC, 79th Engineer Battalion at Wiley Barracks. At the time, the 79th was constructing airfields, etc. not only in Germany, but had line companies in Spain and Libya.
I did nothing heroic, obviously, so can't go all "John Kerry" on 'youse people'.:^)
Navy, submarine fleet, 7 yr 5 mos. Got out as an ET1.
Navy Reserve, 12 yr 7 mos. Retired as an ETC.
