FReeper Canteen ~ Tell Us About Your Military Service ~ July 6, 2006

Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

USN - 1980-1987
USS Sterett CG-31, Subic Bay Naval Base, Olongapo, Philippines
Went to basic in Orlando, FL - E3 out of boot camp. BE&E, 1st half in Orlando, second half at Great Lakes Naval Training near Chicago. 'A' school in Great Lakes. 'C' school in Dam Neck, Virginia.
Boarded the ship in San Diego, CA and rode her to the duty station in Subic Bay.
Spent 5 1/2 years on the only US warship to ever be homeported out of Subic Bay.
Just over 7 years in the US Navy (Held over for a little over 2 months while waiting for a replacement)
Made the rank of E-6 (FTM1)
Got out because I started a family and couldn't see spending that amount of time away from my children as they grew up.

SOMEDAY I would love to land on a carrier -- not likely since I am NOT in the military, but if I ever somehow got a shot at it I would be there!! I can't imagine the rush!
Good to see ya Skyraider! *HUGS!*

True enough. I have met some former enlisted men that made very fine officers. But most 2nd Lieutenants just get in the way.

I have never seen Niagra Falls! Hubby's been getting to go on lots of motorcycle rides and stuff, so I think he'll be ok letting me go on one weekend jaunt. I'm working that angle anyway! I told Ms.B that I was going to try, and I meant it!!
