Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

Interesting. After moving all over the country, I'm back in New Mexico (and west Texas). Much has changed at the Base I guess. Clovis is exploding with growth even though CAFB was targeted for closure. While at Cannon, I spent most of my time on the flightline either cooking or freezing in the weather extremes of the High Plains. However, one summer while we were still waiting on the F-111s to arrive from Nellis, I did work as a lifeguard at the NCO pool.

Star,
Although the term is shrouded in history, my understanding from AF lore, which was actually Army Air Corps lore, which was of course Infantry/Signals, etc. lore is this:
A "dog robber" was an aide to a general officer that was said to be so low that he would rob the fleas off a dog for his officer if it would gain him favor.
Anyway, that's the way I heard it.
Hope that helps, although others may have different stories about the term.

I've not been back to Clovis since I left. I understand that they fly the F16 out of there now.
I sure remember the weather extremes! I remember being the first one to the bomb dump in the morning after a 2ft or so snowfall. I think it was around 10 degrees. I'm not really sure I stayed on perimeter road on my way to work - there are very few landmarks that stick up through the snow.
Anyway, we came out of the shop around noon for lunch and it was at least 60 degrees, the snow had melted and DRIED UP! Weird, really weird.
We use to "hunt" prairie dogs in the bomb dump using the tugs. We would start chasing them and just as they stepped to the side for us to go by, we would hit the rear wheel steering and catch them off guard.
I can also remember the thunder of the 111's as they hit the afterburner to take off. Made your teeth jitter in your gums.
Ahhh the memories! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Cordially,
GE
