FReeper Canteen ~ Tell Us About Your Military Service ~ July 6, 2006
Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge | 06 JULY 2006 | Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge

Posted on 07/05/2006 7:04:50 PM PDT by Old Sarge

Army?

Navy?

Air Force?

Marines?

Coast Guard?

Why did you choose that particular branch?

Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?

What is the name of your unit? (Division?)

What is their (your) mascot?

Tell us how much you loved your DI!

How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you?

Your first landing on an aircraft carrier

Your first parachute jump

The heaviest vehicle you got to drive

The largest weapon you got to use

Did you serve before email?

Did you have a personal nickname?

It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future...
and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.

A gentle reminder from Ms.B:
Please, no politics in The Canteen.
The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen.
Have fun and play nice!

((((hugs))))) God bless you for sharing that story! My hubby was stationed in Korea, too....in the Air Force...in Kunsan.

I salute you as a fellow Military Wife and Mom. My son is currently serving in the Air Force. He isn't in harm's way like your hero, but I am so proud of him. And I am proud of your son and pray that he gets back to us safely!

"IMO, it's just not for the world's Islamo-fascists and others to see on a public board."

I agree, up to a certain point.

Now some post generic "items" of where, when etc they were 10, 20, 30 etc years ago.

Hardly anything classified.

Now I have seen some on forums trying to "track" military transport supplies during the current war.

One internet "detective" was even posting military flight numbers and destinations.

And I agree those who are under an oath to not post past info, not post it.

And those serving now, not to post anything about current intel data.

One thing for sure is that Free Republic is full of vets who have honorably served and post their own info of their free will and who are proud of who they were/are.

I *SALUTE* you for the service you indicated in a later post.

Combat Engineer
Fort Leonard Wood, MO

As you can tell by this CEV - Combat Engineer Vehicle, we like to fight and build at the same time

This is a Bailey Bridge that Combat Engineers love to build:

We deployed land mines and removing them is part of the job:

This came along after my service ended, but this is a remote controlled mine clearing device:

Below is another Combat Engineer. This one is used to assist in bridge building:

We also had bulldozers, land mover, bucket loaders, and back hoe which is all affectionately known as 'Heavy Junk'

I don't want to take anything away from others, but we had to be the hardest working men in the military. My First Sergeant used to say that we get more done by 9:AM then the rest of the Army gets done all day. Some days, I never doubted those words.
