Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

December 1, 1969 marked the date of the first draft lottery held since 1942. This drawing determined the order of induction for men born between January 1, 1944 and December 31, 1950. A large glass container held 366 blue plastic balls containing every possible birth date and affecting men between 18 and 26 years old.

With "Essayons!" up there, I kinda picked you as an Engineer!
And Guard, too! Same here.
If you notice, most of the units we are talking about don't exist anymore - 60's to 80's, in most cases. You're welcome here, too!

LOLOL!I know what you were doing in PI on your liberty calls! LOL You only think you know. Believe it or don't, I only went to into Olongapo about 5 times in all the months we spent in port. Hated that town. Chose to go to Grande Island or the EM clubs or we would take the diving boat out and go fishin' up close and personal. Got 13 lobster on one fishing trip off Cubi Pt about 60 ft down. Awesome sites to see under those waters in Subic.

Oh my goodness! Cordova....KLAM is Cordova's original radio station. It signed on for the first time on May 2nd, 1954 under the care of local broadcaster Chuck Buck. The call sign came from Cordova's reputation for being the Clam Capital of the World. Even though the big quake in 1964 destroyed the local clam beds, the name of KLAM is still a treasured part of Cordova's history.
KLAM broadcasts at 250 watts at 1450 AM. Our range varies greatly depending on terrain. Some folks 6-7 miles from town have trouble getting us due to the mountains, others can hear us well over a hundred miles away over the open water. We even get letters from Finland, Italy, and other countries from HAMs who pick us up off the ionosphere skip. Weird eh?

Don't know about today's technology. When I was in we used to laugh at P3s and their lame attempts to find us.
Back then, just take her down to test depth and the P3s were lost.
