Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

There are things one just doesn't forget: and it's neat to see what stays with you after the years roll by. Looks like things have been pretty decent out of The Suit for ya!
I still remember my Q and Z signals enough to run a good teletype O/W. That was a whole world away from Program Managing a VoIP Network today.
My daughter, born in the Azores, is three weeks away from marriage to a stable highly motivated Academic IT Director and Instructor.
My wife and I are really excited and truly blessed! As you say, it's been pretty decent since I wore the Blue Suit!
The only thing better I can imagine would have been to retire as a Chief.

So that's how the draft worked? I never really knew the details. They picked a birthday and all registered with that birthday were drafted??

Assuming, then, that you served somewhere, thank you for that.

Johnson was drafting students in college. My status changed from 2S to 1A overnight. I enlisted in the Navy, a family tradition, my ancestors, my Dad and most of my uncles.
Two years later and 15,000 miles away, I got a letter from a high school buddy. In the draft lottery, my birthday came up #365.
Go figure.
No regrets though, Tonk.

Welcome Home Brother
I was there Oct'68-Apr'69 on the destroyer USS Corry DD-817
which sometime supplied PCF's and PBR's
and provided gunfire and gunfire support
in North AND South Viet Nam.

Lets try to remember, the folks who are on the front lines have no time to hang out.
But by the same regard lets honor thier service
and mark it for posterity

Yes, I did. I will say combat engineer (cbt.), Army, NG, 7 years. You're welcome. ;-) I'm a little skittish about posting unit designators, locations, etc., for now.
