NK Fires Missile (short-range; now a second short-range missile)

TOKYO (AP) Japanese broadcaster NHK says North Korea has test-launched a missile.

Fox News reports that the US Northern Command (Northcom) in Colorado was placed on high alert. The status is said to be due to North Korea’s plans to launch a long-range ballistic missile.

I guess this explains the news from yesterday, that Cheyenne Mountain raised its security status to "Bravo-plus." Looks like we've been watching Li'l Kim's missile prep the whole time....

I believe the Mountain was a Bravo Plus which is two full rungs from "war", Third and a half of five.

I have no issue with hitting first, if its warranted. But you've got to hit them hard - not just taking out this missile launcher, we'd have to use tactical nukes to destroy all their military assets along the border.

They want us to show our "defense" hand. They are hoping to fire a few duds thinking we will show our ability to intercept. They ain't fools. Time to see who is the best poker player.

Yep, it's looking that way. I suspect they never fueled the big missile and this was all just a (failed) trick to get us to use our defenses. They have failed to make us jump the gun.

Discovery went to the space station. It certainly wasn't a primary national security mission (although there might be something else we don't / shouldn't know about - wait for tomorrow's NYT). As for launching in a hurricane, that sure wasn't the case on Sunday. Let's not get too dramatic here.

NK timed this missile launch to coincide with the shuttle launch. No threat to the shuttle, but it was meant to steal the thunder of the US's 4th of July shuttle launch in the media.

Not very impressive, actually. I'll be watching better stuff than that tonight over the lake. It is good to see that they've succeeded in hitting the ocean.

yes, 50 years. its a token force from military perspective,with respect to a conventional exchange. NK has lots of ground troops, artillery, etc. and Seoul isn't that far away.

CNN - third missile lauched. they say its the long range one, but that is not confirmed.

now, a problem with the launch?

If it had been up to our previous administration, Al Quada would have been armed, Iran given yellow cake, NK allowed to come into our nuke stockpiles for a 1/2 off sale and Yassar Arafat given a state funeral.

We're now dealing with the ramifications of our previous administrations appeasement foreign policy.
