Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
With all the commercials on Fox News now, the Network can afford to keep paying Greta and Ted whatever they have been getting for an hour program.
TAH-night!
There isn't a conservative news because, as defined, news is radical:Basically journalism is cynical about eveyone and everything except itself. Itself, it hypes to the skies. Anyone who toadies to journalism by criticizing people who get things done (and thus are vulnerable to second-guessing) is a friend to the journalist.
- "If it bleeds, it leads" emphasizes the negative.
- "Man Bites Dog" emphasizes the unusual, hence the unrepresentative.
- "There's nothing more worthless than yesterday's newspaper" emphasizes the superficial.
The idea around which liberalism coheres is that NOTHING actually matters except PR. That's liberalism, and that is also "objective" journalism.
The alternative to "objectivity" is not inferior to it, the alternative to "objectivity" is humility. Instead of bragging how objective you think you (and everyone who goes along and gets along with you) are/is, be philosophical and claim only the love of wisdom, not possession of it. "Objective" journalism is sophistry, and the proper challenge to it is philosophy.
What would a program which projected humility and a philosophical attitude look like, and how would "objective journalism" react to it? There is no need to refer to it in the subjective mood. It exists, but is not called journalism. It is called "conservative talk radio" - and it is arrogantly reviled by "objective" journalism.
Other than the fact that there is a VISA charge to one of the boys' credit card for the dancer, there is not ONE SHRED of evidence that there was ANY kind of crime committed, much less a rape. And yes, we have seen or heard ALL the evidence, regardless of what Nifong says.
The State of North Carolina requires that the DA give exculpatory evidence to the Grand Jury; the way Nifong got around that was to just not LOOK at anything that didn't confirm his thesis of what happened in this house; he refused to meet or speak with the lawyers OR the players to hear their side of what went on, therefore he only "knew" what he wanted to know.
They haven't gotten away with it yet.
Three boys are indicted for first degree rape, in spite of every single fact being in direct contradiction to what he claimed in the fliers, the probable cause hearings, and the indictment. This is the proverbial "no way to unring a bell."
I'd say that he has, in fact, "gotten away with it."
As for the girl, she's not in involuntary commitment for being a drunk, nor did she lose custody of her children, which surely would have happened had she been arested that night. It's working out just fine for her so far.
46 boys, for all intents and purposes, have had their reputations smeared for the rest of their lives all because Mike Nifong needed black votes to beat Freda Black. A good man lost a prestiguous job as Lacrosse coach and 46 families across this country have had their lives turned upside down for political pandering by a man who is abusing the justice system in the state of North Carolina for his own end.
IF and WHEN the boys are convicted and appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, it will be national news
Aren't you forgetting the fact that, even if they are found innocent (not not guilty) or even if she drops the charges or even if it's proven it's all a hoax, that those three boys' names will ALWAYS be in the National Sex Offdender's Database? Isn't that something that this country needs to be aware of and discuss? That this can go on and nobody can do a thing to stop a runaway prosecutor? If it can happen to people from these family backgrounds, surely it can happen to the rest of us, right?
The way I see it, this should be MAJOR news to every person who believes in the truth and justice -- and to every parent who has a son this age; this is a MAJOR learning lesson for boys and parents, IMO.
You've got to be kidding! Kiran is such a lib! The weekend show that she co-hosts consists of nothing more than a bunch of Hollywood trash and DNC talking points. Typical liberal. She sounds like one of those PETA folks, always concerned about the poor animals, yet I bet she's for abortion.
His voice is absolutely intolerable.
I live in Colorado and Ailes
tries to force me to watch
OReilly twice and
does not make Brit Hume
nor Neil Cavuto available at all.As they are on too early or too late.
OReilly is so incredibly ignorant
about facts and socially abusive
that I find him personally repellant.
Megyn Kendall is going to be a big star at Fox. She has the intelligence, personality and work ethic that will take her far.
If my idea that I am proposing to the online Miami Herald works out, that might give me the credibility to talk to Fox News. I have an idea for a show that would really help their ratings.
at 55 he's probably too young for me but I've decided I like boy toys....but Dan Springer is the one that really makes my blood run hot!
Do you suppose there's something in the limelight that destroys their brains? Or maybe it's the pancake make-up?
Roger, put Megyn Kendall on 24 hours a day........ you'll be fine.
Yes he is and the show sucks...
Not at all what I expected from him.
Hard news junkies are your core audience, and we don't care (not HOURS worth a day in any case) about Runaway Brides, Child Abusing - Chimp Owning Celebrities, Co-eds Murdered On Spring Break, and all this other drearily repetitive soft news crap that's constantly shoved down our throats.
I love listening to him on XM radio. He can really cut loose and say what he thinks on the radio.
Marvin Kaklb
Wesley Clark
Alan Colmes
Geraldine Ferraro
Shepherd Smith
Julian Phillips
Greta Van Sustern
Neil Gabler
Each of these people causes me to change channels. I absolutely will not watch them. Period.
If you could use the 10" that just shut down Washington DC come and take it.
Oh, I forgot O'Reilly! I agree, repeat him VERY late and instead give a repeat in the prime time to Britt!
I love Brian because of his strong patriotism. I think that September 11th really had an affect on him, and I believe that he mentioned once that he has become obsessed with hunting down the terrorists. On the other hand, he doesn't come across as particularly conservative on other matters such as social issues. I feel that FNC is probably filled with very patriotic news anchors who want us to fight the war on Terror and win, but on the other hand, they are just as liberal as most others in their field when it comes to matters of culture and family.
Brian certainly isn't afraid to voice his opinions, and occasionally he puts his foot in his mouth, but I think that's what makes him so interesting and entertaining.
