Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
Hey Roger! Stop hiring CNN's cast-offs and your ratings will go back up!
I have a few recommendations for the chopping block... There are some folks on FNC that cause me to change channels the minute I hear their voice.
There has been a partial liberal bias creeping into FoxNews. Hence the ratings slide!
Still a million times better than CNN.
the ratings will go back up b4 the election(also known as the day the demRATS go do again).
I might watch weekends more if they can metrosexual Julian.
And going back to real news broadcasting instead of tabloid trash like Greta Van Susteren's show would be a good start.
Neal Gabler needs to go. And they need to stop being SO "fair and balanced". It's rare to see Ann Coulter alone, without having some liberal bubblehead to balance it.
A couple hints: Get rid of Greta, drop endless Natalie Hollaway coverage and other police blotter stories, and hire appealing conservative hosts like Glen Beck and maybe even Dennis Miller to spice things up a little. And for the love of god get rid of Juan Williams.
Here's a couple of hints:
1) Every news item does not have to be a "Fox News Alert"
2) Enough with the car chases
I'm not sure Ailes himself fully understands who brung him to the dance.
Hey Roger, stop moving to the left..
Moved too far to left.
How about less courtroom/murder drama (duke/domestics) during prime time and more hard news...
By the time I sit down to watch TV, Fox News is always doing that Natalie Holloway story or some other missing person story that they drive into the ground. It's boring!
"There are some folks on FNC that cause me to change channels the minute I hear their voice."
For me, that's Greta, E.D. and Sheppard.
I'm tired of the breathless hype over the weather. They've got Hannity & Colmes covering the weather. I wish they'd keep the weather on the news shows and in the updates. I feel like I'm watching the weather channel sometimes.
