Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
Neal Gabler is totally unhinged. When he first got on, he at least could make valid contributions to that panel. I know he is supposed to be the left wing rep for the FNW panel, but he has become unhinged and no one challenges his nuttiness on the show.
LOL...You make a very good point.
There are several reasons I stopped watching Fox almost completely.
One, I hate crime of the month reporting. Let me know briefly what happened, and then when its over, let me know how it turned out. The daily arguing about the minutiae of an investigation into a crime that, in the end, I don't care about, gets really old really quick.
Hannity and Colmes has gotten pretty old. I hate listening to morons shout at each other. Hannity is OK, but if the price for listening to him is "Colmes", if the price-tag for listening to someone who actually knows the subject at hand, is to be forced to listen to some moron who doesn't know what he's talking about, just for balance, its just not worth it. I don't want some kind of faux-"balance", I just want good reporting and good discussion of the issues. I don't want a shout-fest, and I don't want to listen to someone whose only expertise is the fact that he can be guaranteed to disagree with everything, whether he knows anything about it or not.
A lot of what we call "bias" in the news is not merely the point of view, its also the choice of stories. Fox basically follows the very same stories as the rest of them, meaning that for real news, if you want to know whats really going on, you have to go to other sources. In the age of internet, thats very do-able, and so I don't need Fox.
I guess thats it. I want real analysis, I don't want a lot of shouting or artificial controversy. I don't want to listen to an idiot just because he represents the other side; if I want to listen to that, I'll tune in CNN, which I don't watch either. And I don't care about the latest Michael Jackson caper, or some missing person who, in the end, I don't care enough to worry about every day for six months.
I'm sticking with Doocy, but I am more then with you on ED Hill. There is no one on Fox who annoys me more then her. From her clothes to her obviously fake tan (she's more orange then George Hamilton), everything about her bothers me.
Throw John Gibson in there for a Trifecta!
That was it for me as well.
Hey Roger,
Stop the stupid "Fox News Alerts." We don't need an alert everytime some stupid Hollywood type has a baby or something.
How could I forget John Gibson??? He can stay, too.
Get back to conservatism and quit sounding like CNN.
Can Gretta for starters!
I'm a conservative who doesn't mind hearing the other side's arguments/talking points. What I don't like are shouting matches in which no one really gets heard. I tune out of those immediately, and that's caused me to move away from FNC more and more lately. Also the other networks have finally done some effective counter-programming. I suspect Lou Dobbs is punching a big hole in Brit's ratings.
I'd like to see a format change so Fox partisans are brought on one at a time to state their case, with later rebuttal from the opponent. They could switch who goes last (big advantage) on some kind of schedule. I can't stand to be shouted at by anyone/thing and especially machines!
"Mr. Ailes I have stopped watching FNC BECAUSE I DON'T CARE ABOUT NATALIE HOLLOWAY, THE DUKE RAPE CASE, OR ANY OTHER TRAGEDY TV CRAP!!!"
AMEN!
What everyone else has said.
More gravitas and less crapitas .
We need more stories on how illegal immigrants are saving the country (U.S.)
Amen. I can't stand her. Her, and Julian.
(I wonder if Rog has noticed that ratings are slipping, since Mike and Juliet went to the Weekdays.)
