Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
Brit Hume is No 1 in all TV, IMO.
He has always creeped me out. He has these glittery eyes that remind me of an insect.
You nailed it.
I guess he noticed that I don't watch anymore.
How is it Fox has never hired Laura Ingraham to host a show or co-host?
She was good on her occasional forays into Imus - in spite of that wrinkled old fool insulting her. She holds her own and has a pretty good radio show.
And those are just his good points! What were they thinking when they hired him in the first place? For a network that claims to be fair and balanced, this guy is incredibly unbalanced--one might even say, unhinged.
Same old same old. We know the dialogue before those same boring hosts open their mouths.
The topicss are relentlessly foolish. Sean confronting a professor from decades ago.
Same old rhetoric.
The Beltway Boys are becoming the BORING BOYS.
As for that madman on that media show.......aaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh fire them all. And I don't mean bring in Howard Kurtz either.
FNC is boring. Rather watch the paint dry channel.
That tells me a lot about the distance between your ears.
Brit Hume and Brian Wilson
Add Jim Angle
I'd like to add Steve Ducey and Brian Killmeade for comic relief. Just about everyone else can go.
Why is Ailes bitching? He's the one that put this mess together in the first place.
Hey, Fox! Get rid of Whorealdo, and all the CNN rejects, and Greta's unsolved crime of the week - for a START!
It's nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks Fox is moving towards the left.
I think they're already beyond saving. I'm curious to see if anything else will be able to take up the slack now that they've begun their journey to 'the dark side'. Fox is a lost cause, IMO.
Nothing currently on TV will do. It'll have to be something new and 'untarnished', IMO.
Gabler is like that dude on Cavuto's weekend show who used to be little Tricky Dickie Gebhart's campaign manager. He can't see past his pro-rat, anti-bush rhetoric to even begin to give good commentary on financials.
So, does this mean Fox will quit with the "all Natalee Holloway, all the time, unless it's some other murder case" syndrome?
I'd rather watch car chases than Ellen Ratner, Eleanor Clift, or Susan Estrogen.
..however, only MSNBC seems to cover it thoroughly and better than FOX.
There is nothing at all wrong with "covering" the Duke case, nor the Holloway case.
There is plenty wrong with making a fetish of it, however.
I don't watch near as much as I used to. In addition to all the reasons stated above, I can't stand that huge banner they always cover the bottom 25% of the screen with. It drives me nuts when you can't see what they're supposed to be showing you because they have it covered with the banner.
Brian definitely has launch type intensity, or LTI. So does Julie Banderas, after that face-off with the witch from the "god hates fags" church.
O'Reilly's smearing of the Swift Boat Veterans is what lost me.
The worst repeat guests...Greta's "panel". What a bunch of dorks and she's had them on there forever, night after night they comment on trivial aspects of boring cases, the same viewpoint always too. She should do a real "legal show", something we could actually learn from. I wrote to her and suggested that once, that she could do a program about the law and substantial issues...She wrote back "It's obvious you hate me"...What?? Apparently she's quite sensitive, takes suggestions as criticism.
