Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

They could hire a REAL news anchor. Shepard Smith just doesn't do it, he is too superficial.

There are a LOT of us here who DO care about the DUKE case...

..however, only MSNBC seems to cover it thoroughly and better than FOX.

IMHO some of the problem is the general frustration of conservatives with the GOP.

When this network started up, we ALL hated Clinton and gave a strong viewership.

With the present RINO's, watching FOX is like kissing your sister.

Toss in some liberal shows like Greta and Shemp - there you are !

Brit Hume and Brian Wilson. They can do it in 12-hour shifts.

Add Jim Angle to that, he's just plain enjoyable to watch.

So, the Fox audience is so small this would make a measureable difference? That's pretty sad.

But then, I don't watch FNC or any other TV news outlet. If I want news, I come here.

How about you stop threatening people and injecting liberal views into your broadcasts.

Does this guy really add that much to FNC? I mean, really? This guy subtracts a lot from FNC. I turn it of when he comes on. He makes Rita Cosby look like a winner.

I want more Humes, Cavutos, Asmans, Vesters, Gibsons...etc. I want people who give the President a fighting chance.

Agree with all of thosee names. Especially with Asman. I don't know how it happended or why it happened, but Bill Hemmer is not even close to an adequate replacement for Asman.

Also, come 10 PM, I find myself tuning more and more to the Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel and the History Channel.

Neal Gabler is an unadulterated piece of hate-America filth. He does not even have any valid contributions anymore because of his hatred.

I don't think it is the prime time news anchors that is the problem, it is the content that they are covering.

Sorry, but when Shep Smith has a full segment on Natalie Holloway in Aruba, followed by O'Reilly with a full segment on Natalie Holloway in Aruba, followed by Hannity and Corpse with a full segment on Natalie Holloway in Aruba, followed by Greta's FULL SHOW of Natalie Holloway in Aruba, WHY SHOULD I WATCH ANYMORE?

Brian Kilmead (sp?) showed some "launch type" intensity this morning when Sen. Levin was being interviewed. Levin got angry at Brian....I laughed

The other problem is they just fall in line and parrot the the daily news agenda initiated from the NY slimes. They need to break that cycle.

Someone made another great suggestion too that they need to stop reporting the weather as news. Since Katrina, all the news stations have been fixated on possible tropical storms, hurricanes, etc. While I understand the need to report that if the US is threatened, all the breathless hype Fox and others engage in when a tropical depression forms off Africa is annoying as hell.

Plus I had some weekend show on Fox I think on Saturday that advertised at the start some interesting news stories I wanted to catch. Then they started right out with 15 minutes of interviews about the Duke LaCrosse case. I turned over to celebrity poker on Bravo instead.
