Limbaugh Detained At Airport Image

Joy Purdy Reporting

(CBS4 News) WEST PALM BEACH Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening.

Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra.

Limbaugh entered a plea deal back in April in a previous case where his charge of fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions was dropped under the condition he continue undergoing treatment for addiction.

Limbaugh had admitted to being addicted to pain killers on his radio program and had entered a rehabilitation program prior to that arrest.

Limbaugh detained at Palm Beach airport

Associated Press

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

ICE officials found a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a drug that treats erectile dysfunction, in his luggage, Miller said.

"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Miller said.

Limbaugh reached a deal last month with prosecutors who had accused the conservative talk-show host of illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping painkiller prescriptions.

The matter Monday was referred to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Limbaugh.

"He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors," Miller said.

Investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.

The sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.

"We believe there may be a second-degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.

A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

Under Limbaugh's deal with prosecutors, the charge, commonly referred to as "doctor shopping," would be dismissed after 18 months if he continues to submit to random drug tests and treatment for his acknowledged addiction to painkillers.

I was just about to say hello to you :) Everthing is very well (though soggy at the moment--it hasn't stopped raining for four days!)

I hope all is well with you and yours too (and a little dryer :).

Only CBS, the Communist Broadcasting System would put a story out like that, in the true spirit of Dan Rather, another communist who left See B.S. to join pravda....

I don't care who reported it, I would wait for further confirmation of this story. I like so many others, am a big admirer of Rush's.

I must admit however, it did give me a bit of a scare.

Your doctor doesn't even have to write a prescription to give you medication, if he has it there. It's entirely up to his judgement. The prescription is so someone OTHER THAN THE DOCTOR knows that you have his permission to receive the drug. My doctor routinely gives me medication for my asthma and allergies right there at the office. No prescription is needed because he is giving it to me himself.

Hello,

Rush just this evening gained at the least 2 million new listeners. They are middle aged men and the women who love them. They can put themselves in the place of a man who just had an news story written about them, after having been caught with Viagra (with an explanation of why men need it, hint, it's for ED) and they will be livid....

Glad to be here, MOgirl

I should point out of course that these are samples to he can see if the work. You'd be amazed at how many samples doctors are given by companies ravenous to get their products more exposure.

The drive-by media will be humping this story like FR has been after the NYT over the leak.

No, he's never talked about his 1st ex-wife either and that was well before he would have any settlements. It might be part of the settlement with Marta. I'm sure her lawyers would insist on it.
---
I'm speculating, but if I were a person in Rush's position I would have had a "no tell-all books" clause in the settlement. No doubt her lawyer required him to respect her privacy as well in return.

And let's face it. Fair is fair. He has a radio program, she doesn't, he shouldn't use it to invade her privacy or say or imply anything that she can't respond to. That's just human decency.

Whoever wrote this article needs a course in how to write cogent and coherently.

It's a local TV station -- average I.Q is around room temperature but the hair style and makeup is super.
