COLUMBUS, OHIO (6/20/06)-The House of Deputies of the 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church today overwhelmingly refused to even consider a resolution that affirmed Jesus Christ as the "only name by which any person may be saved."

***If I were an active Episcopalian, I'd be running for the hills to find a new denomination.***
After having been Episcopalian for almost twenty years, it finally dawned on me why the authority of the Pope and the Magisterium is so important - to prevent heresies such as this! I finally realized that these verses are literally true:
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:17-19
It was a real DUH moment for me, and yes, I'm now Roman Catholic.
P.S. I was brought up in the Presbyterian church - the one that is now debating new names for the Trinity, such as Mother, Child & Womb. see this thread:

Well, I polished silver and ironed fine linen for 30 years for the Episcopal Church.
I'm still in the Church but I don't iron any more.
Be careful there, the elca is in full communion with the episcopals, therefore a part of this heresy. There are a few branches of the Lutherans (missouri, iowa and wisconsin synods) that still hold to the truth, but the majority of Lutherans are painted with the same brush as the Episcopals, unless they renounce their communion with the Episcopal church.
Perhaps the concept of the utter sinfulness of mankind might
give a clue to why the Episcopal "convention" can come
up with a piece of work like they have.
I am not a Christian and believe that there are many paths to God. Having said that, I think it is well within the purview of any religion to define itself. I grew up in the Lutheran and Church of England traditions. It would seem to me that the Episcopal Church in America has gone off on a serious tangent here. Of course, that is their perogative, but are they really still a Christian Church?
Remember the "Church of What's Happenin' Now"?
"Mainstream" Christianity on the road to self-destruction and the future triumph of Islam.
I do not give credence to your "only true church" theory. Paul agrees with me. Your church's history says it all. do you happen to remember the Dark ages, and those pesky little stories?
I know in Whom I believe, and am persuaded that membership on your roles won't have much sway with St. Pete! The keys are in God's hands! Every bit of falsity you claim, will come from your church's teachings. I am sure you have been well trained, grasshopper!
I guess it easier to belong to an organization. But, my Scriptures teach that we all have sinned, and have fallen short of the Glory of God. The penalty is death, and eternal damnation. There is only one way to restore the ties, to gain eternity with Him, and that is through faith in Jesus, not His church! God is a Spirit, and those that worship Him, must do in Sprit and in Truth! I didn't say it, He did!
There's a lot of ambiguity on this fact in the church; I know a lot of folks who believe the good Hindu, Jew, etc., can achieve salvation as well as many souls after death as Christ (according to Scripture) did descend into the dead to do just that... (I have mixed feelings on this myself)."'
Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.
Even in the situation which causes your "mixed feelings," it was Jesus Christ who did the saving. These fellows have denied Christ. They should no longer call themselves Christians.
Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Acts 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Anything else is just religion.
Cordially,
GE
At least you admit you are not a Christian. The fallacy
that the "convention" is committing is that they call
themselves "Christians"...a term which from what I have
heard means, "one who wants to become like Christ"...yet
they don't affirm Christ himself.
Illogical, abuse of language conventions, self serving
sophristy, and delusional could best describe the
modern Episcopal confession.
May God open their spiritual eyes to their desperate need.
Yep!
The Episcopalian Church is no longer Christian, then. There is a female, Episcopalian minister, priest or whatever they call themselves, here in Greensboro, NC, that has been prone to making very New-Agey public pronouncements for years. Maybe this just makes it official.
BINGO! That is exactly what happened in Canada with the United Church of Christ.
Have a look at this....
The Scriptures that you read are a product of the Catholic church, which was one Church until the Orthodox separated in 1054.
There were many, many books and letters being circulated in the first 400 years of the Early Church. If you had been a Christian during that time, you would not have had a clue about which books (other than the Old Testament) to regard as the Word of God. The teachings of the Church would be what would have directed your beliefs. It was only in the late 300's that the Church definitively chose which books would be included in the Canon and which would not. How was it decided? The Councils of the Church relied on the Holy Spirit to direct them in choosing which should be in and which should be out. There were many writings by good and holy men, such as the Epistles of Clement (4th pope and a good friend of St. Paul: And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. Philippians 4:3). According to Eusebius in 325 AD, Clements First Epistle was considered to be divinely inspired while St. Johns Revelation was not! It was not until the Councils of the Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that each of the books to be included in the Canon were chosen. This occurred at the Council of Hippo in 393 AD, the First Council of Carthage in 397 AD, and the Second Council of Carthage in 419 AD.
During the Dark Ages, the monastaries of the Church preserved all learning (history, science, philosophy, etc.), as well as the physical books which contained it, from the invading hordes (Goths, Vandals, etc.). It is now generally agreed that the Catholic Church preserved civilization during this time. The greatest philosopher of all time, St. Thomas Aquinas, built on the philosophical thought of Aristotle, which he would not have been able to do had the Church not preserved Aristotle's writings. This is just one example of many.
They then voted overwhelmingly to change the name of the denomination to "The Church of What's Happening Now."
Wow! You mean pageonetoo lied about the Catholics as badly as he lied about the Mormons? Did he tell the truth about anyone?
