Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?
Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."
In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."
"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.
"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."
Quigley and Stender conclude:
"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

I would point to the DOJ lawsuits against Microsoft when Bill Gates wouldn't donate money to the Democrats. I would point to the IRS audits of Bill O'Reilly and The Heritage Foundation. Power to abuse citizens isn't "delegated," but the power to direct Government agencies to harass and abuse citizens is used nevertheless. But you know that and you can't possibly believe otherwise. And that is why Government Officials should not be "asking" "private citizens," or "retailers" to "ban" things that are Constitutional, such as books, that those same officials find offensive. Would you state that these elected officials would be within of their Constitutional rights to start "asking" "private citizens" or "retailers" to "ban" sales of the Bible?
The embarrassment goes to the one that needs it to be explained. Or they can buy the book and get the whole picture.
I wouldn't bother trying to get a copy of this book at you local tax funded library. Censured for sure.
And they and their liberal enablers got hit right between the eyes. Good shooting Annie.
Hmm, whatever happened to the First Amendment? Oh, that's only for liberal books and opinions. Ann must be doing a great job to get them this angry. Go girl!
You're a great teacher - hopefully, your comment doesn't need to be explained - otherwise it will be an embarrassment! ;)
"Coulter's statements go well beyond criticism."
Really? One man's criticm is another man's hate speech. And hate speech is still freespeech or Ward Churchill would have been summarily fired from his tax payer funded job.
Censorship of anything they don't like.
Just part of the Democratic Party SOP of thier Brave New World definition of "tolerance".
No news here.
What were the comments about stifling, censorship, and the "chill wind?"
If this is just a request not to carry the book, then this is typical liberal symbolism over substance.
If it's an actual book ban, then I have to turn my back on New Jersey, it has effectively seceeded from the Union and has joined San Francisco. BTW, I am originally from New Jersey.
I guess I'll have to buy "The book" to see how bad she damaged the nerves of the left. The more they "chastise" her, the larger her bankroll becomes from sales.
Tasteless? I found them to be perfectely delicious. Sumptuous actually. Very satisfing. Burp!
Unlike the "Jersey Girls", I have actually survived a terror attack on the WTC, and I agree with Ann. They are craven self seeking vultures on the corpses of their dead relatives. Mourn all you want, just don't think your grief is sufficient reason to adjust the foreign policy of the US to your pleasure.
In this case it is "a breed of cow"

I'm well aware of what you mention but I asked for delegated power.
Power to abuse citizens isn't "delegated," but the power to direct Government agencies to harass and abuse citizens is used nevertheless.
Such abuse of power is legally wrong. See the checks and balances of the Constitution. Abusive politicians can be voted out of office; Abusive politicians can be impeached; and abusive politicians can be prosecuted for breaking laws.
All of that being a perfect deterrent? Of course not.
Look. The Jersey girls are free to say the wrong things that they say; Ann Coulter is free to call the Jersey girls on it; Book store owners are free to sell or not sell Ann Coulters books and airhead Jersey pols are free to advocate boycotts.
That's the what the first Amendment means.
If we disagree, fine.
I hope Ann occasionally reads FReeper posts. She deserves to know how much real people love her.
:-) I'd love to shake your hand, Ann. You're a brave, bright, beautiful lady.
