Conservative author Ann Coulter is firing back at Sen. Hillary Clinton, after the former first lady attacked her for being "vicious [and] mean-spirited" towards a group of politically active 9/11 widows.
"I think if she's worried about people being mean to women she should have a talk with her husband," Coulter told radio host Sean Hannity, who was hosting a book signing for the conservative firebrand on Long Island.
"This is, I remind you, Bill Clinton's wife," Coulter added. "[And I'm the one who's] mean to women?"
Earlier in the day, Mrs. Clinton complained about Coulter's attacks on the Jersey Girls, a group of 9/11 widows who blamed President Bush for the attacks that killed their husbands and who campaigned for John Kerry in 2004.
"Perhaps [Coulter's] book should have been called 'Heartless,"' the top Democrat said. "I know a lot of the widows and family members who lost loved ones on 9/11. They never wanted to be a member of a group that is defined by the tragedy of what happened."
An angry Clinton added that she found it "unimaginable that anyone in the public eye could launch a vicious, mean-spirited attack on people whom I've known over the last four and a half years to be concerned deeply about the safety and security of our country."
But Coulter told Hannity: "She may know the 9/11 widows, but you and I know Juanita Broaddrick" - a reference to one of Mr. Clinton's accusers.
Coulter delivered her broadsides against Mrs. Clinton as a phalanx of TV and print reporters looked on.
The heavy coverage was prompted by the New York Daily News, which frontpaged Coulter's comments on the Jersey Girls in Wednesday editions.
Lot of talk about the official who handed Ann a letter demanding an apology but that's about it.
Scummy is ripping Ann......LOLOL....guess it's alright to call various republicans every vile name known to man, but the widows...they're untouchable.
ouch
Ann, don't you dare let-up. You're on to them, girl!
P.S. Ignore O'Reilly!
I just bought it!
Hillary: "it was like being punched in the stomach. It took my breath away".
Hillary sees Ann's legs and goes nuts. Reminds her of the Canadian girl Bubba's sporting these days!! Yup, it's a big right leg conspiracy!!
There are more than a few FReepers who are not conservative but either stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night or try to play conservatives on the Internet. I am sure that you are familiar with the type.
How does it not make any sense?
About the Jersey Girls, Ann is not the first critic.....
"Nor can anyone miss, by now, the darker side of this spectacle of the widows, awash in their sense of victims' entitlement, as they press ahead with ever more strident claims about the way the government failed them."
Dorothy Rabinowitz of the Wall Street Journal."
It's just not PC to do it.
I happen to agree with Ann Coulter on how these women (the so-called "Jersey Girls") have allowed themselves to be exploited, and on the bad intentions of those doing the exploitation. I also understand that Ann is a bomb-thrower; the verbal equivalent of a MOAB, and about as subtle.
But I must admit: I don't like the careless language that I have observed her using to describe other people. Instead of clever and inciteful, she frequently comes off as mean and superficial, which is unfortunate for a clearly brilliant woman, and no credit to the cause of Conservatism.
A softening of tone, a bit of coloration in her black-and-white world, an occasional note of compassion, perhaps some attempt at introspection would help her win more fans. Ideological Liberals are never going to love her, nor should they be expected to; after all, they are the ones who view their political opponents (us) as not merely wrong, but as unremittingly evil.
Most Conservatives I know don't view the world this way, and don't come off as "haters" when they talk about those with whom they disagree. Pick any thread on DU to see the flip side. Therefore, while I love that Ann points out what you rightly call "the brazen manipulative tactics of the immodest and immoral left", I don't often care for how she does it; it makes her appear incautious and ultimately less intelligent than she really is.
With fans you crave who needs air conditioners.
We have a sharpshooter here, one invective, one kill.
It's not like we have time, money or bullets!
We're against the wall, man, and it's our wall!
Take off the gloves and start fighting or snivel down on your prayer rug!
Don't make me tell you what I really think!
P.s. nice hat.
"If she wants a place in the debate then she needs to apologize for her comments."
I am reminded of the TV sitcom widow...you know what I mean, the woman who inherits a vast estate (in the Brightman Brigades case tax free)and a year later is jet setting around with the beautiful people, boy toy on her shoulder, but who reacts like Inspecter Renau in Casablanca when confronted. They are shocked, yes shocked to be called about their behavior...after all, they are only poor grieving widows" and all those watching on TV chuckle to themselves.
The democrats have a cottage industry in creating folk who can say and do the most outlandish things but cannot, because of their status as a member of this protected group, be called on it in any forceful way.
One cannot criticize race pimps, homosexual extremists, environmentalist nutters, Cindy Sheehan, Congressman Murtha, the fake war hero and hobby senator, John Kerry, or the Brightman Brigade....after all, they are Grieving Widows...
Sorry, it is about time those idiot loudmouths were called on their route to celebrity and what they have made of it.
Sometimes Ann can over-do, for my taste, but these harpies had it coming to them.
Victims are entitled to their fifteen minutes on the stage, but if they try to turn it into permanent celebrity to grind their political axes, then, by all means, the gloves should come off.
I am watching to see who, on the right, is going to be too prissy to stand close to Ann now. Laura Ingraham had Ann as a guest this morning and was politely chilly to her. Sad to see Laura losing her nerve.
We may not all actually be soldiers; but we neeeed soldiers!
You're putting words in Ann's mouth that she did not speak, even if your words are accurate about the Jersey girls. Set up a few more strawgirls.
She said they are using their widowhood to further their political beliefs, and trying to shunt aside critcism of such by "virtue?" of being widowed.
Of course Ann sometimes calls a spade a damn shovel. Either way, it's accurate.
You make a good point.
Barricade work is not for sensitive souls with elegant manners. But it is important work.
(I realize that I am adding nothing here to what you already said with admirable pithiness!)
Overdo what?
What?
Are very existence is being threaten!
Threatened by the smarmy and the evil.
Embarrassed is what we should be.
Embarrassed by not defending ourselves adequately and letting a little girl go out and fight for us.
Talk about Joan of Arc (not to mention her husband Noah!)
Well....I doubt anyone would ever mistake me for the Church Lady. I just wish Ms.Coulter would reserve her bile for people who really deserve it, and be a little more thoughtful in addressing people who may deserve criticism, but not humiliation. Even in a time of war, people can be civil to each other. Right?
I never said "over-do"! Not I!!!
