Poll: Bush Worst President Since 1945 Reagan Picked As Best President In Nationwide Survey

(CBS News) President Bush has been named as the worst president since the end of the World War II in a new national poll.

Mr. Bush was chosen by 37 percent of the voters who participated in the the Quinnipiac Unversity survey. Richard Nixon finished second with 17 percent -- just ahead of Bill Clinton with 16 percent.

Ronald Reagan was the top choice as best president, with 28 percent. Finishing second was Clinton with 25 percent.

The poll reflected deep partisan divisions. Mr. Bush was ranked worst by 56 percent of Democrats and 35 percent of independent voters but only 7 percent of Republicans.

Reagan, on thew other hand, was named as the No. 1 president by 56 percent of Republicans and 25 percent of independent voters but only 7 percent of Democrats.

"Kennedy and Truman get big Democratic votes, especially among baby boomers (45 - 64 years old) and seniors (over 65), but recent memory counts," said Maurice Carroll, director of Quinnipiac's Polling Institute.

"Democrats say Clinton's the best and Republicans say he's the worst. Republicans don't think much of Jimmy Carter either. There's no contest for the GOP favorite: It's the Gipper," Carroll adde

Bush has plunged our Nation into $3 Trillion dollars in additional federal debt, in less than 6 years, not to mention the billions our state and local governments are forced to shell out in support of his open borders, pro-illegal immigration policies.

How about 'Worst president Ever'?

Was that a choice?

The poll is ridiculous. Jimmy Peanut Carter is by far the worst president. History will remember President Bush as one of the best presidents of this century if not all times. Sure there are things we don't agree with, but does everyone agree with everything 100% all the time? I don't think so

Let's see. Reagan is remembered for phrases like "Shining city on the hill," "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall," or "The Evil Empire." So far W will be remembered for "Doing the work Americans won't do," "Addicted to oil," or "Islam is the religion of peace."

That's a rather selective picking and choosing.

I'd say most Americans will remember Reagan saying "We begin bombing in five minutes" more than some of those. Also, I don't know what he said when he signed that Amnesty bill, but actions speak louder than words.

As for Bush, I think more Americans will recall some of these quotes:

thanx...those numbers were a "probably".
I went to the University's poll page for additional data and they did not give the breakdown of numbers by party Additional Poll data

in fact, it shows REPUBS with 101% total for approve\disapprove as president.

Roosevelt - it can be argued that his policies worsened the depression, but what can not be argued is he started us on the road to socialism.

You're right, of course, but the poll was for presidents after 1945, which excludes Roosevelt.

Shows how evil a country America has become. They think a do-nothing president like Bill Clinton who sat back and diddled the help while Al Qaeda planned 9-11 with impunity, and then was later impeached for committing multiple felonies is better than a president who cut taxes, grew the economy now growing at 5.3% with full employment at a low 4.7% unemployment rate and protected America from further attacks on its soil? I give up on this country and just await God's judgments upon it.

I'm sure as with all polls of late it over-represents Democrats. Clearly it over-represents stupid people. I agree with the Reagan part, but Clinton a close second? These people are sick in the head.

The Bush disciples will be remembered for attempting to cut down Reagan to make their guy look better, which is my number one reason why Bush won't be remembered as a great president, and possibly not even a good one.

History will have to be the judge of GWB. I believe it could go either way depending on the outcome of ME, but that is a no brainer. People who rate him low now may eat crow in a few years.
