Poll: Bush Worst President Since 1945 Reagan Picked As Best President In Nationwide Survey
(CBS News) President Bush has been named as the worst president since the end of the World War II in a new national poll.
Mr. Bush was chosen by 37 percent of the voters who participated in the the Quinnipiac Unversity survey. Richard Nixon finished second with 17 percent -- just ahead of Bill Clinton with 16 percent.
Ronald Reagan was the top choice as best president, with 28 percent. Finishing second was Clinton with 25 percent.
The poll reflected deep partisan divisions. Mr. Bush was ranked worst by 56 percent of Democrats and 35 percent of independent voters but only 7 percent of Republicans.
Reagan, on thew other hand, was named as the No. 1 president by 56 percent of Republicans and 25 percent of independent voters but only 7 percent of Democrats.
"Kennedy and Truman get big Democratic votes, especially among baby boomers (45 - 64 years old) and seniors (over 65), but recent memory counts," said Maurice Carroll, director of Quinnipiac's Polling Institute.
"Democrats say Clinton's the best and Republicans say he's the worst. Republicans don't think much of Jimmy Carter either. There's no contest for the GOP favorite: It's the Gipper," Carroll adde

And, oh yes, he didn't grant amnesty to illegals with no qualifications at all.
I'd say I'm pretty thankful for President Bush.
LBJ Doesn't get enough 'credit' for the complete failure of his presidency and the long lasting negative effect on the country. Hell, the illegal immigration problem we have now can be directly pointed back at him..
Apart from bungling the border issue, GWB at least has sought to defend America. Carter and Clinton weakened us.
In any case, this poll's margin of error is plus or minus irrelevancy.

LBJ - I would agree, but without Roosevelt laying the ground work, LBJ would not have been able to do as much harm as he did. Perhaps we can have a three way tie, Roosevelt/LBJ/Carter (or four way if you want to include Clinton).
Excellent!
And.. typo alert, check your keyboards.
21 1/2 percent. We financed a large piece of mining equipment in 1979 at this rate, thanks to this fool.

Some real cheap shots there. OK I'll admit Bush is no Reagan.
1) When inflation is considered, Reagan's budgets spent more %-wise on spending than Bush's.
2) Reagan signed into law tax increases, amnesty for illegals, and supported the Brady bill and signed the treaty that banned Freon.
3) Reagan cut and ran in Lebannon when terrorsts killed 240 marines.
4) Reagan accomplished little to nothing in the area of preventing abortions.
5) Reagan appointed O'Connor and Kennedy to the Supreme Court.
6) With respect to taxes, Reagan cut them once, and raised them twice.
Both Reagan and Bush faced many challenges and I think they will both be shown to be excellent Presidents even when considering ALL cheap shots.
Neither Truman nor Kennedy, any Kennedy, gets this boomers vote. And, if Bush were running again, neither would he. I am fed up with his inaction on the borders and big spending.
You are smoking sumthin if you think Nixon is better than Bush.
Well put. Astonishing how the man who was definitely, without question going to bring us World War 3 is now considered the best.
I erred purposely, I was rooting for the rabbit

Did any of the geniuses that responded to this poll know that Eisenhower was President? There are very few greats, like Reagan. Most American presidents are just taking up space. Then there are the disasters (LBJ, Nixon, Carter). Clinton was criminally negligent and his incompetence led to the 9-11 attack. If he had been in the Oval Office in 1940, does anyone doubt that the Nazis would have crossed the Atlantic? Does anyone doubt that the terrorist attacks would have continued under Pres. Gore?
FDR lied us into the war. Thank Heaven!
If most Democrats think he's the worst - that puts him pretty high on my list.
