Israeli forces have captured a leader of the militant Islamic group Hamas in a raid in the West Bank, sources say. Troops moved into the town of Ramallah and seized Ibrahim Hammad, 41, the alleged head of Hamas' armed wing in the West Bank, the military said.
He is accused of masterminding a string of suicide bombings on Israelis, including attacks at cafes and at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Israel had been trying to catch him for eight years, army radio said
they sprout like mushrooms

"West Bank: Top Hamas fugitive arrested in Ramallah"
By JPOST.COM STAFF
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the IDF and an elite Border Police force arrested the head of Hamas's armed branch in the West Bank overnight Monday.
Ibrahim Hamed, 41, has been wanted by Israel since 1998 and is allegedly responsible for killing 55 Israelis and wounding hundreds more in a string of terror attacks, including the bombing of the Moment Cafe in Jerusalem and blasts at the city's Hebrew University cafeteria and Zion Square.
Hamed was captured in Ramallah in a planned operation and his arrest was described by security forces as a "great military feat." He was set to be interrogated by the security establishment on Tuesday."
Paging Jack Bauer, Jack Bauer, white courtesy telephone please.
Jack can't answer right now.
The Chinese have him.
Now that's a beautiful thing. Hopefully, he will spill his guts out after a bit of waterboarding. Perhaps the video clip could be posted on an obscure website akin to the Al Qeda punks.
Hammad won't look near as bad as Jack did tonight. ;-)
Nice catch.
Hammad is but one in a long line of "number twos". A new number two has already filled the vacancy.
Someone please pass Hamas the Charmin.
This may fit the old Indian proverb about having a tiger by the tail.
Could be.
Time will tell.
. . .
BBC correspondent Caroline Hawley in Jerusalem says it is not clear why the army moved against Hamad.
Only an imbecile would complain that it is not clear why Israel apprehended this terrorist. The mind of a BBC correspondent must be a twisted and bizarre place where logic and reason hold no sway...
"Nice catch."
Yes. One less bearer of death to innocent people.
