My opinion of a man is not based on his opinion of President Bush. Not everyone here is a bot.

Rocks my faith?
How could a dumb book and movie written for shock value to make a buck, rock my faith?
It blasphemes my Savior and I don't appreciate that.
Jesus was mocked, tortured, ridiculed, crucified and He took all of that in order to provide all men with the opportunity for eternal life with God. All they are asked to do is follow Him, be baptised for the remission of their prior sins and they receive the best possible gift this world has to offer.
No - there is a point behind this movie and the book. That point is to mock the life of Jesus, to call the 2000 years man has believed the Bible of what His life is into doubt and to bring about efforts to destroy His message.
And you think I would go pay to see these anti-Christianity efforts, to pay to see man again seek to harm Him who gave His life that this same man could have eternal life?
The ones that will be hurt are those not of the Christian faith as this effort and the ensuing ones to tarnish Christ and take God out of America might cause them to turn away from the truth when they run across it. They then will lose their opportunity for eternal life.
Man must remember the Lord gave His Son for man's salvation and efforts to harm that Son will not be acceptable to God.
I would not want to be in the shoes of mockers and those harming Jesus or God's word - the Bible on Judgment Day. And there Will be a Judgment Day.

To me Yes....However, I am interested in your comment. In your opinion, how does Christ having children support His Divine nature?Right after the book came out, a guy on the plane said, "I would find comfort knowing the decendants Christ walked among us.." Thats an exact quote. The irony? I was reading the book at the time and had it on my lap while listening to the two talk about it..

Not a hypocrite - the man loves Jesus and is standing up for Him.
The Patriot and Braveheart were just movies and did not seek to bring question into Jesus' life.

And it appears to be a magnet even for people who disdain popular culture at its worst as this book. Read
this guiltridden review by an intelligent discriminate reader. (It's well worth plodding though it, as at the end she recommends another, truly fine novel and even offers a guarantee that you'll like it, or your money back.)

I remember thinking about Janet Reno and Waco as I watched that scene and I wondered. Waco might have been the inspiration for that scene. I don't know if Mel has ever said.

A friend of mine saw it and said it's a fictionalized mystery. It is, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who have bought into it as fact. And of course the author, Dan Brown, had gotten caught up in all the hype. After all, it means millions more for him.

So?
That means we are not to discuss the harm it does to those who might be swayed by its fiction intermixed with some facts?
The almighty dollar?

folks here hate the Da Vinci CodeNah, just sad for the folks who believe it's all true instead of just enjoying it for what it is - fiction.

Gosh, I don't think I'd ever want to actually *read* the Da Vinci Code! But I'll check out your recommendation.

You are comparing pebbles and boulders. If Gibson had had King George III personally ordering the burning of the Church, then the magnitude of the historical error would be somewhat the same.

Oh, guess Mel has no right to speak up when Jesus is mocked, lied about for the almighty dollar?
Since when is Jesus and his crucification and life to be the subject for any form of fiction those that do not honor Him choose to make?
This is like the "art"? where they show all kinds of defamation of Christ and we have to accept because of freedom of speech. Well, I can tell you man may tell us we have to accept it - but God looks at it a lot differently.

Except for this. While Jesus is a historical figure, his divinity is not based on history, but on faith. The Da Vinci Code is not "historical" either, but simply a piece of fiction a la "National Treasure."

He's got all the right in the world to speak out. And I have the right to chuckle at him.
Since when do we have the right to make movies about Jesus that don't fit with the beliefs of his followers? I guess since we Americans started believing in free speech and free expression.

I think its a cleverly presented tale, but only because the original hoax was done in great detail.
Frankly Dan Brown irritates me for insisting its all true so people are welcome to criticize. I just find it a bit rich coming from Mel Gibson.
I think some of the criticism is misplaced though. Even if the story alleges Jesus did something that offends some, any criticism from the protagonists is aimed the church, not Jesus himself. Not the same thing.

The King throwing that girly boy out the window in Brave Heart and showing the British burning a congegation alive in Patriot, upset some of the same people who think Oliver Stone is an unbiased historian.

Someone on another thread mentioned that play "The Deputy". That was a comment well worth more thought,I had forgotten how it changed most of what was, into what many came to believe, was.
If I remember correctly,Roth Holstreuth, the writer was an east german communist seeking to take the heat off of the brutality and death Russian communists had wreaked on innocents after the Revolution and thereafter. And what better way than to blame the Pope and the Church. It has always been such an obstacle to those who would be god.
