Iran may force badges on Jews, Christians

Iran may force badges on Jews, Christians TEHRAN, May 19 (UPI) -- Iran's parliament passed a new law this week that would force the country's Jews, Christians and other religious minorities to wear color-coded ID badges.

Iranian expatriates confirmed reports the Iranian parliament, or majlis, has approved a law that would require non-Muslims to adhere to a dress code which mandates they wear "standard Islamic garments," according to Canada's National Post.

The roughly 25,000 Jews living in the Islamic Republic would have to attach a yellow strip of cloth to their clothing, Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would wear blue ones.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader and highest authority, must approve the law for it to take effect.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, head of the Simon Weisenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

The Weisenthal Center has written to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to call on the international community to pressure Iran into abandoning the measure.

"There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," Hier told the Post. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this."

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejan has publicly called for Israel to be "wiped off the map." The West believes Tehran is secretly and illegally using its nuclear energy program to develop a weapon, a claim Iran denies.

If the UPI story is a hoax post were you have come by this information

Reported in numerous sources, mostly based on the Canadian report, but also reported in London in al-Sharq al-Awsat, an Arabic language paper which would presumably favor the changes.

It could be be a hoax, but it takes more that a poster who registered today to establish that.

I am done with this Nazi-like sh###t coming out of Iran, and I think we need to send in the Marines. The leadership of Iran is asking for it and I think we should give it to them. I am an isolationist at my core, but there are things that should be put in the past and stay in the past. This kind of behavior, one step away from concentration camps, "NEVER AGAIN", has new meaning. A statement needs to made in the Muslim world, and now is the time; a end to the Syrian and Iranian governments. No support to oppressive government else where in the Muslim world. When we go in it needs to swift and brutal, and not neat and surgical. This can't be slap, it must be a punch right in the mouth. One spoken about to children to cause fear, "Raise you hand in violence to the world, and terror and destruction will rain down on you".

I would agree however a question has been raised so at this point the story it is neither confirmed True or confirmed Hoax

The link posted above that questions the story http://www.israpundit.com/2006/?p=1200

States it got it tip from historymike's musings (not sure but it may tend to be a progressive left site)

http://historymike.blogspot.com/2006/05/dispute-over-report-of-iran-requiring.html

So bottom line the story and it's "it's a Hoax" counter are both echoing all over the net at this point....so it may take a bit to confirm what is and is not....monitoring

The nice thing about the media these days is that once a "reputable" paper picks it up, in this case either the National Post or UPI, it's news to everyone. If it's false, expect to see a condemnation of the Zionist media in the next few days. Enforcement of Muslim dress would be a bigger problem than tagging minority religions with badges, however that may refer to headscarves for women which wouldn't be an unusual restriction. There's nothing on their news agency

From the horses mouth.

Majlis passes bill setting out new dress requirement

Tehran, May 15, IRNA Iran-Fashion-Majlis bill

Majlis deputies here on Sunday approved the outlines of a bill setting out a dress code suitable for Iranian culture and society and a national fashion trend.

When the bill is passed into law, a committee composed of representatives from the ministries of culture, commerce and industries as well as the Management and Plan Organization, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and Majlis Cultural Commission is to be created.

The culture ministry and IRIB will have the primary responsbility of promoting the required dress or clothing design as confirmed by the committee and prevent Western-style fashion that are against Islamic teachings.

After the law is passed, the culture ministry, with the help of the ministry of commerce, will hold national, regional and international festivals and exhibitions to promote cultural exchanges, including Islamic fashion, among Muslim nations.

Seasonal fairs will be held by the commerce ministry to introduce as well as promote sales of Islamic dresses and garments to the public.

The national dress plan was approved in Majlis by 137 votes in favor, 45 against, and 11 abstentions.

Where does it say "Badges for minorities?" It doesn't. The law cited in #66 applies to the general population. The moohoos want to see no more fashionable clothing that pushes the limits of their tiny, twisted minds.

new dress-code law reportedly passed in Iran this past week mandates the government to make sure that religious minorities - Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians - will have to adopt distinct colour schemes to make them identifiable in public, the Canadian National Post reported on Friday.

Under the new law, which still awaits final approval from Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Jews will have to wear a yellow band on their exterior in public, while Christians will be required to don red ones.

Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter responded to the new law Friday night, saying, "Whoever makes Jews anywhere wear the yellow star again, will find themselves in a coffin draped in black."

Furthermore, according to the law, the Iranian government has envisioned that all Iranians wear "standard Islamic garments" designed to remove ethnic and class distinctions.

The purpose for the law was to prevent Muslims from becoming najis "unclean" by accidentally shaking the hands of non-Muslims in public.

I guess we're all gonna have to just wait awhile to see if this is true. I've seen several places that say it ain't so.

"One good thing about this. It will make it easy for our troops to tell the good guys from the bad guys - when we invade Iran. And, I suspect these badges will become very valuable when our invasion forces get close.

This also could be perverted into a method of fooling us as to who is the enemy and who is our ally. Suiting up in attire with this symbol emblazoned upon it, Iranians could make it difficult for us to determine friend from foe.

Inasmuch as the Holocaust never happened, and Israel must be wiped off the face of the Earth, and George W. Bush is not a good Christian, and waiting for the 12th Imam, why would you doubt this news report?

Don't be a jerk! There have been several reports that say this isn't true. I don't know if it is at this point. But you've sure risen to the bait! If it's true, it's horrible. If it ain't, you look like an asshole! Which may be the point.

Like I said in a response to this same topic on another thread, this may not sound very "Christian", but I hope the Lord Almighty comes down on this wicked little Hitler-Haman in Iran like stink on an old camel and then commences to hurt him real, real bad!
