MP told she is 'not a citizen'
By Joan Clements in The Hague
(Filed: 17/05/2006)
The Dutch MP who lied to gain asylum fought back tears yesterday as she confirmed she was resigning her seat after being told her citizenship may be withdrawn.
Somalian-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali also said she was leaving for America. She said her job was now "impossible" after a "shocking" letter from Rita Verdonk, the immigration minister, saying Miss Hirsi Ali could no longer consider herself Dutch because of the lies she told the immigration authorities in 1992.
I'm just speaking about what I would do if I was an African muslim woman facing that situation.
That's great! The Netherlands loss is our gain.
I suspose you read post #31.
And a good opinion. However, the kneejerking is cutting both ways now. I didnt know who she was and at a time where illegal immigration fever is high, the post highlighted what we are dealing with. Now that I know who she is, I have tempered my stance. But what I object to is being called ignorant and a troll. What was posted, provided no insight. But the attacks on me and the "ignorant" posters was out of line. I have been around here for a long time, and have never seen FR like this. Last nights speech thread was quite contentious. Im hoping things will settle down, but I doubt it. Calling me ignorant, which I was in the true sense of the word, did nothing but start the flame war again. And you'll note, the one who said it has not responded since, but Im the troll. FR used to be a cool place..
I know. Out of all the atrocities the followers of allah commit, that probably the worst..
"Their loss; our gain."
You are absolutely correct. I just cannot believe the knee jerk stupidity some folks here display! For crying out loud, find out who the woman is before reacting. I believe Michelle Malkin did her May 9th hot air "vent" about this lady. A fascinating, and brave, woman.
pattyjo
She's been telling Muslims what they don't want to hear, but need to. She's very brave.
Thanks for posting that..
Yes I did.
I only took one beheading for the dutch to cave. How can any man call himself dutch?
And it still is! But once you decide to stop lurking and start posting, you better have a thick skin - even if you post something you think is totally innocuous and that no reasonable conservative could disagree with.
Expect to be misunderstood and abused. Then if you aren't, you can be pleasantly surprised! :-)
This is true of all internet forums I've ever known - going back to my first days on Usenet back in 1982 - especially in the politically oriented forums. (Anybody else out there remember misc.politics.* and talk.politics.misc and talk.politics.mideast and all the rest ???)
You are right, of course. It just disapointing sometimes..
In the documentary, Ms Hirsi Ali said that when she arrived in the Netherlands she had come straight from Somalia, whereas actually she had lived in three different countries in the interim.
Ms Hirsi Ali said she had already admitted lying to win asylum in the Netherlands when she was vetted as a candidate for parliament in 2002
The MP came under fresh pressure last month after a Dutch court ruled that she must leave her home in The Hague because neighbours felt she was a security risk.
Both her political party and the media knew in 2002, and they didn't have a problem with it then. Phone calls because of the documentary in which her family denies an attempt at a forced marriage have changed the Dutch government's mind (I wonder who made those?). Not to mention that she's planning a follow-up script to the one that Mr. Van Gogh was murdered over. Oh, and let's not forget, she was very vocal in her support of the Dutch newspapers' publishing of the Mohammed cartoons, which made her even more popular with the Muslim population.
Intelligent people do that. You are no troll. ;-)
I'm glad to see that you've seen the significance of this woman. I know it is easy to come to the conclusion that she was not worthy to come to the US based just one the information from the article (written by the left wing media). But her true story is much deeper, and we as Americans should be honored that she chose the US out of the many countries that she could have fled from her religious/PC persecution. The immigration debate has spun up many FReepers, but we all still need to remember that "The New World" will always be a place where one can flee from religious persecution.
