Bush set for immigration speech

BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on
immigration tomorrow night.

Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's
"passion" on immigration.

He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Good column by Barr. Today I must have read a hundred of them and not one showed support for amnesty or "comprehensive" reform. The Senate must be living in another universe.

Undaunted immigrants prepare for `war on the border'

SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Mexico - Fresh off a U.S. Department of Homeland Security bus, where he had been detained and returned after illegally crossing the border Tuesday morning, 21-year-old Eric Estrada Fits was looking for his smuggler to try again.

Like many on the bus, Estrada said he was in a rush to enter the United States illegally because he believes President Bush will soon offer amnesty to illegal immigrants.

Using soft words to describe events, actions or persons in order to disguise their true nature is becoming a well-honed art among politicians in Washington and across the country, and nowhere more apparent than in efforts by the administration of President Bush and its supporters to sugarcoat the crisis of illegal immigration in and into the United States.

I agree I'd like to hear his take now. I'd just add to the above that many in MSM have a part in this too. They have been complicit even today sans a few.

Latinos caravan to Congress to push for illegals' citizenship

ATLANTA - Vowing to turn street power into political action, immigration rights groups across the country have been organizing caravans of buses from as far as Los Angeles to bring legal immigrants to Washington for a day of lobbying Wednesday.

At sunset Tuesday, a couple of dozen legal immigrants and their supporters boarded a bus and departed from the parking lot at Plaza Fiesta, a Hispanic mall in Atlanta where 50,000 marched for immigrant rights in April and stores were shuttered for an economic boycott on May 1.

The bus was followed by an RV carrying four immigration lawyers.

Other participants were planning to drive their own vehicles or fly to Washington, said organizer Teodoro Maus, the former Mexican consul in Atlanta.

"I believe marches were good ideas, but now we need to meet the senators to express to them that not everybody is illegal who feels like this," said Sandra Lacayo, a 27-year-old immigrant from Nicaragua.

"It's the American way. If we want to be counted, it's time we participated," she said, dressed in a white T-shirt with a bar crossing through the letters "SB 529," a sweeping immigration reform bill passed by the Georgia Legislature this year.

Amelia Turrubiaes, 53, a social worker, said she felt compelled to travel to represent undocumented Hispanics.

"In some way, we're all immigrants. We're all following the same wish," she said.

Julian Herrera of Dalton, Ga., another organizer, said senators "will see what's really going on, the persecution that's already happening.

"They'll see what's our potential," Herrera said as he prepared for the 1,300-mile round trip.

After establishing their presence in the spotlight with massive marches and work walkouts, the organizations pushing for legalization of the millions of illegal immigrants already here are recruiting legal immigrants to go sway Congress with the ultimate tool - their vote.

"There clearly is a transition from a feeling of outrage to a proactive effort to influence public policy," said Andrew Selee, director of the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington.

He added that such efforts, typical of all immigrant communities over time, can sway both public opinion and the calculations of politicians who are increasingly aware of the need to woo Latino voters.

"They are a huge voice that, if motivated, could make the difference. They're trying to claim what they hope to be the collective future of the country," said Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who met with Hispanic advocates in Atlanta on Monday and is one of three Hispanic members of the U.S. Senate.

Contrary to the street marches, where many fearlessly proclaimed their illegal status, naturalized U.S. citizens and legal residents are in the front lines of this event, and not only because only those with valid IDs can enter the Capitol.

Immigrant supporters are banding together nationwide for a massive naturalization and voter registration drive, hoping to turn immigrants into a million new citizens and get their supporters to vote in this year's elections. Their message mixes fear with confidence - fear that the proposed immigration reform might threaten the status even of those who are here legally, and confidence that immigrants can cast many a deciding vote once they become citizens.

One of the fundamental messages they'll bring to Congress is that it's disingenuous to draw a line between legal and illegal immigrants, Herrera said.

"It's stupid to say 'Come legally,' when for many it's better to pay a coyote than wait and wait for a visa," he said. Herrera, a Pentecostal pastor from central Mexico who lives in northern Georgia, said he's now a U.S. citizen but many of his relatives are here illegally.

That statement is insane... or I really must be living in some other dimension.. this world is making less and less sense to me everyday.

Tonight in Chicago

Officials bust alleged smuggling operation

May 16, 2006 - Federal agents broke up an apparent human smuggling operation Tuesday. Agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency made the arrests at the O'Hare oasis on the Tri-State Tollway late Tuesday afternoon.

ICE said it found a suspected human smuggling load in a truck. Agents converged on a pickup truck with an extended cab and cover. It contained mostly men, several women and one child. It is unclear where they were coming from, although an ICE spokesman said these trips commonly originate from Arizona.

One last one.. bottom line from an interview from Hugh Hewitt to Mark Steyn:

HH: 30 seconds, Mark Steyn. Did the President help himself? Did he advance immigration reform in solution and border control tonight?

MS: No, I don't think he helped himself, and I don't believe he seriously tackled what is a sustained assault by Mexico on U.S. sovereignty.

From a very smart friend named Joe, maybe he has the reason for why they are doing what they are doing:

In previous weeks I've tried to figure out "Why this mad dash"? Why this near insane rush to railroad amnesty upon us while dismissing any thought towards Border Security? I have commented similarly before . . . but with recent actions of the Senate and the President . . . One must consider . . .

It is probably a combination of things. But I go back to the RICO ACT. The U.S. Supreme Court very recently heard a case appealed by Mohawk Carpets. A lower court and a Federal Appeals Court have both ruled in the past two years that the RICO Act applies to companies who employ illegal aliens.

The Supreme Court could rule that the Federal Appeals Court ruling stands and if it does -- ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE.

RICO statutes were devised to prosecute Mafia type operations for being a 'continuing criminal enterprise'. It worked well, establishing that a series of repeated and concerted actions to break the law to be a criminal enterprise.

If the Supreme Court holds that RICO applies to employers of illegal aliens, any such employer would be open to huge treble damages into the many millions of dollars to those claimed to be harmed by the illegal actions. This would bankrupt many large corporations and send some Executives to prison

RICO applied in illegal alien cases would be a greater legal hammer than was found in the tobacco lawsuits.

The Supreme Court could rule tomorrow - next week or next fall. The Senate 'Immigration' bill contains language providing 'amnesty' for prior acts by employers of illegal aliens.

Also, employment of illegal aliens would end overnight if the Supreme Court uphold the appeals court decision. Thus the need for 'legal' immigrant employees in large numbers - a.k.a. Amnesty in all its various forms.

Illegal Alien Employer PAC money could be buying - with very big money - the current RUSH to Amnesty for all concerned.

Something to think about . . .

Joe

SO maybe we should start appealing to the Supreme Court?!
Maybe THEY will listen?!
