BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on immigration tomorrow night. Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's "passion" on immigration. He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy. Stand Up For America !

A complete background check on each politician is about as easy to achieve as capturing Illegal Aliens. Mission Impossible.

Sorry, if you can't get into the LAT site, here's an excerpt from CNN:
Mexico is Utah's third-largest trading partner, and Fox was invited to the state by Gov. Jon Huntsman. (Watch Mexico's president call for greater ties with U.S. -- 1:51)
But with immigration in the spotlight in the conservative state -- and in the United States as a whole -- Fox is expected to talk about the issue as well, particularly when he addresses the Utah Legislature on Wednesday.
Utah's Hispanic population, made up mostly of Mexicans, has tripled since 1990, and the reason is a point of contention.
Some say the state's family-friendly atmosphere and economic opportunities attract immigrants. Others don't see it that way.
Alex Segura, a member of the anti-illegal immigrant group the Utah Minutemen, said Utah is a haven for illegal immigrants because so many people tend to look the other way.
"They are very compassionate, open-minded, open-hearted people who want to help," Segura said. "But sometimes their compassion supersedes the law requirements that they need to recognize."

"WEST VALLEY, Utah Mexican President Vicente Fox kicked off a four-day U.S. visit Tuesday by decrying congressional proposals to build a wall to keep illegal immigrants in Mexico, saying that "we won't resolve this problem with fences, but hand in hand, working together." "

Breaking News...
Officials: Hastert "In the Mix" of Congressional Bribery Investigation
May 24, 2006 6:24 PM
Brian Ross Reports:
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress, ABC News has learned from senior U.S. law enforcement officials.
Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.
Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.

LaDita...I'm as confused as you with Senate procedures. But, I do believe if they did NOT approve the waiver to the Budget Point of Order, it would have killed S2611.
The Budget Point of Order was pointing out that if S2611 is approved, it is in violation of the Senate Budget. According to what Allard and Sessions were saying, in no 10-year period can the Senate authorize any bill which would EXCEED $5 billion. They apparently "waived" this restriction of the budget (that's how I'm understanding it).

Utah is a haven for illegal immigrants because so many people tend to look the other way. Just like many in the Senate.

"Alex Segura, a member of the anti-illegal immigrant group the Utah Minutemen, said Utah is a haven for illegal immigrants because so many people tend to look the other way. "Thanks for the ping/info.
Utahans will be sorry when their beautiful city begins to look like East LA and they have car jackings, home invasions, robberies and drunken road accidents. I have seen this in the news in a very large Texas city, this is not just East LA or California any longer.
And let me add with emphasis, this goes on EVERY DAY!!
