Roe attorney: Use abortion to 'eliminate poor'
World Net Daily ^ | 13 May 2006

In unearthed letter urged President-elect Clinton to 'reform' country

A letter to Bill Clinton written by the co-counsel who successfully argued the Roe v. Wade decision urged the then-president-elect to "eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country" by liberalizing abortion laws. Ron Weddington, who with his wife Sarah Weddington represented "Jane Roe," sent the four-page letter to President Clinton's transition team before Clinton took office in January 1993.

The missive turned up in an exhibit put together by the watchdog legal group Judicial Watch, which has been researching the Clinton administration's policy on the abortion drug RU-486, notes James Taranto in the Wall Street Journal's Best of the Web.

Weddington qualified his statement, saying, "No, I'm not advocating some sort of mass extinction of these unfortunate people. Crime, drugs and disease are already doing that. The problem is that their numbers are not only replaced but increased by the birth of millions of babies to people who can't afford to have babies.

"There, I've said it. It's what we all know is true, but we only whisper it, because as liberals who believe in individual rights, we view any program which might treat the disadvantaged differently as discriminatory, mean-spirited and ... well ... Republican

Clever post. Good tagline, too.

Where "it comes from is a report by Judicial watch, which you can download in PDF form by going to the bottom of the page at this address (the correspondence in question is at the last 5 pages of the exhibits):
http://www.judicialwatch.org/5769.shtml

The fact that WND picked up on it doesn't taint it, any more than the fact that Taranto of Best of the Web commented on it tainted it, or the fact that over 300 comments have been written here.

What matters is the legitimacy of the source documents, which appears to be unimpeachable.

What's unfortunate is your attempt to discredit source information based on who happens to report on it. Surely you can do better.

on page 60 of Judicial Watch Report, Ron Weddington on his law firm's stationery sent this letter on January 6, 1992
to Betsy Wright, [Clinton's] Director of Public Outreach Transition Team.

His cover letter states that he and his wife were thinking about "setting up a non-profit corporation to license and distribute RU 486. Being non-profit would eliminate the need for product liabiity insurance, which is a major hang-up for a company thinking about marketing a new drug.

...Something's got to be done very quickly. 26 million food stamp recipients is more than the economy can stand."

On page 50 Clinton signed and dated on JANUARY 22 on White House stationery to Secretary of Health and Human Services (Donna Shalala) to "assess initiatives" to "promote the testing, licensing and manufacturing in the United States of RU-486 or other antiprogestins."

Page 54 is a letter from President of Roussel Uclaf dated Paris, May ..., 1994 that reads:

"Dear Mr. President,

You have requested that ROUSSEL UCLAF allow the RU 486 compound to be used in your country.

We have been working to react to that request in a responsible manner.

I now am pleased to inform you that we have decided to contribute mifepristone (RU 486) for abortifacient purposes (and other gynecological uses) to the people of the United States of America, completely free of charge, by voluntarily
assigning our relevant patent rights to the US government.

This an unconditional gift, we ask for nothing in return."

Lurker, thank you for posting this story. I hope everyone here reads the whole Judicial Watch dossier you linked.

It would seem easy for some Freeper to check the archives in Little Rock to find out if Judicial Watch's copies are indeed accurate.

The deadly and ugly story of RU486 entering this country and who profits and manufactures this wholly unregulated business should be Mel Gibson's next film.

That's a great idea vs, but mentioning JW and Mel Gibson in the same sentence is the kiss of death around here lately.

Nobody, including me, trusts JW any more and for some very good reasons. And Mel Gibson has gone from the darling of the religious conservative set to a pariah for bad mouthing the President.

If I ever get down Little Rock way I'll look into it. But for right now it looks like this is going to be left up to the folks at World Net Daily. Of course they're aren't too popular around here now. Just peruse this thread and see how much respect Joe Farrah gets around here these days.

"Many people just write the whole thing off as a mere difference of opinion, which says that they don't really accept knowledge of absolutes and things like that--"

We're all emotional animals. Some just never seem to go beyond that level of existance. And, some just never seem to get beyond the 'me first' view of things; again, something we all struggle with from time to time. The wife and I have an issue like that within our own family at this time. Having just been made aware of it, we're just beginning to struggle with how to approach it. But again, we're using logic whereas no one else seems to be. It's all part of the earthly struggle.

I'm not buying that a moderately cogent person with any scruples and legal training would plant such a bomb under his own arse.

How many tapes did Richard Nixon make?

This guy writes with pride that he has "sired one fetus."

He loved his child so much, that he and his wife killed it. Chilling.

Unfortunately, this will never see the MSM light-of-day. This is the sickness that defines the culture of death that is so advocated by the anti-life crowd.

Legalized abortion is a major reason for the sharp drop in violent crime

So, let's see, because you read it in a pop economics book, it's true?

You are a fool if you believe it.

...which, being translated, means:

If we admit what we really believe, the world will know that is we who are the fascists, not the right, and that would be political suicide.

I guess this won out over Soylent's idea to eat the poor?

but seriously, this is the newest "conspiracy". Abortion as a tool to stop or slow down ethnic minority pop growth. Seeing it in the ultra liberal rag press.

I'm coming to this very late - but I wonder if a photocopy of the letter has been posted.

It would seem very unlikely that an attorney would put such a "smoking gun" in writing. Unless given the time and political leanings of the author it was not considered controversial.

"What labor shortage? Non-workers are down to about 4.7% of the workforce now."

Economic theory is that when unemployment reaches 3-5% the economy is operating at full employment, because you will always have a % of the population that is unemployable or between jobs. Thus, if our unemployment is at 4.7% and the economy is growing, which means jobs are being created, where do these new businesses find employees?
____________________________________

"We may have fewer workers today than we would have had abortion not been so prevalent, but to say that is a root cause of illegal immigration and our Social Security problems is a bit of a stretch."

Due to the fact that we have fewer workers and the magnet for illegal immigration has been created. The underfunding of social security is exacerbated by the millions of workers who are working for cash.

It's not some vague theory any more.

I would argue that it never was a vague theory, just a carefully concealed one. Only now, the cat - meow - is out of the bag.

"where do these new businesses find employees?"

Job growth with a low unemployment rate should spur higher wages in order to attract from within the current pool. While some of the lower-end jobs that become (or are) unfilled will be taken by illegals, it also provides opportunities to those considered unemployable, for whatever reason, to take advantage of an opportunity (if we can provide incentives to do so).

Sorry, but I still don't see abortion rates as a root cause of illegal immigration. It may be somewhat of a stimulus, perhaps, but not one of the root causes. These people, for the most part, would be coming here anyway because of the nonexistent labor market in their own countries. America, being what it is, is a magnet to the World, and if a person can come to it with little-or-no effort then they will.

As to Social Security, lets take my figure of 4.7% unemployment as an example. And lets say that those within that figure can't make up for a growing job market. The rise in wages will cause a related decrease in the Social Security deficit. The influx of illegals not paying taxes or into Social Security will have a dilatory affect on the system, but would make no difference (to Social Security) than if those jobs were vacant; at least IMHO, and I'm no economist by any means.

The abortion pill RU-486...

There is zero evidence that an increase in the number of people owning weapons lowered crime rates.

You might want to do a bit of google searching before deciding to stand by that statement.

Rumor. . .or otherwise we can safely observe that while poverty is a condition; it is as well, a 'state of mind'.

Perhaps we should eliminate first, those who have an impoverished 'state of mind'. . .in which case, 'Roe' would not be here. . .at least for long. . .
