Nigeria Oil Blast Kills at Least 150

ILADO, Nigeria - A ruptured gas pipeline exploded in Nigeria as villagers collected fuel from the conduit, killing more than 150 people and leaving charred bodies scattered around the blast site.

"Between 150 and 200 people died," Lagos Police Commissioner Emmanuel Adebayo told reporters at the scene, about 30 miles east of Nigeria's main city of Lagos. Dozens of burned corpses lay on the ground

Sounds like a Darwin Award rather than terrorists.

This is fairly common. People use an axe to chop holes in gasoline or natural gas pipelines so they can steal the gas. Every once in awhile it blows up.

200 died?

OK, lets take into account the MSM Universal Accuracy Adjustment Formula.

Divide by 2 = 100
Subtract 10 = 90
then create a range that is 50% of the left figure - 90 = 45 - 90.

So that means the true number of dead lies between the range of 45 to 90.

Good grief... You'd think you'd run out of volunteers for the axe handling part, after a while.

You know, Allah must really hate his followers. Either that, or the entire Muslim system is so mired in the seventh Century that basic scientific education, such as "sparks+gas=boom", has been completely ignored.

Allah=Baal. Try that on, guys.

"You'd think you'd run out of volunteers for the axe handling part, after a while."

Its ironic, the terrorists that are well educated are frequently educated in the US. The terrorists that are not well educated have never left their home country.

perhaps these folks are just so desperate that this kind of thing seems a good idea. The corrupt and inept islamic leaders use hatred of Isreal and the US to keep their citizens from rising up.

Odds are those people weren't Muslims. This is South-central Nigeria, mainly Christian.

Don't those people have enough sense to use non-sparking bronze axes? (/sarc)

I don't know. The reporter can't decide if it's oil or gas.

From the extent of the reported disaster, it had to be gasoline. Fuel oil just doesn't create huge, explosive clouds of fumes; gasoline does. It appears the fools were drilling holes in the pipeline and collecting gas in open containers, enabling a huge amount of evaporation and creating a massive, highly explosive cloud of gas fumes. Then a spark came along. . .
