ATLANTA Hispanic births are skyrocketing in the Southeast, where an increase of at least 40 percent was recorded in five states between 2000 and 2003, according to a new government report.

Among the states with the largest increases were Kentucky (80 percent), South Carolina (62 percent), Alabama (53 percent), Tennessee (53 percent) and Arkansas (40 percent).

The report, from the National Center for Health Statistics, is called the first state-by-state breakdown of birth and fertility rates in the U.S. Hispanic population.

U.S. births for non-Hispanic whites decreased ten percent between 1990 and 2000, and two percent between 2000 and 2003, the report showed. Births for blacks declined nine percent and five percent, respectively.

In contrast, births for Hispanic women jumped 37 percent between 1990 and 2000, and another 12 percent between 2000 and 2003.

Mexican-Americans had the highest birth rates overall, followed by Puerto Ricans and Cuban-Americans. Mexican-Americans gave birth in their teens and early 20s at higher rates, while for Cuban-Americans, the highest birth rate was for women in their late 20s.

And while California and Texas continue to have the largest Mexican populations, North Carolina and Georgia had the highest fertility rates for Mexican mothers.

Isn't Arkansas WEST of the Mississippi? Do they really count Arkansas as part of the Southeast?

Reconquista continues apace.

I'm beginning to think their not content with just the Southwest anymore. I think they're going for the "Whole Enchalada":)

The headline is misleading. The Hispanic birthrate has always been high. The only difference is that there are now more of them birthing here that previously did it in the old country.

Most interesting is the Spanish Language press stories on FANTASMA... the ghost towns of Mexico where the population has declined from 20,000 to 1,000. The homes, stores, everything is now vacant. Only a few feel "left behind".

Most of the single, childless [white] single women in my target dating age (26-34) want to stay that way -- or are destined to stay that way because of their attitudes.

If Latinas want to have committed marriages and babies, I might have to hook that up!

You're overdoing the topics you're posting your threads in. Think fewer instead of more. You'll be more popular.

So, we had an 80% increase in "Legals" in Kentucky? I don't think so.

Everyone in the south considers Arkansas a SE state. The U of A is even in the SEC.

I am not popular at FR as you know, or at least with Admins. Not here trying to make friends, rather trying to help save our country. Sorry if that offends y'all.

It's going to offend me a lot if you keep posting your stories in numerous state topics and otherwise abuse the sidebar topics.

You're not saving the country with that tactic.

Either play by the rules here or go away. It's your choice.
