went directly to the WH or Bush 41 claiming that the organization was in chaos and that Goss needed to be replaced.

But why would the WH or pres be inclined to believe them? There has to be more to the story.

Yep. The fact that we had no idea what was coming is odd.

"I would like to report to you that the agency (CIA) is back on a very even keel and sailing well."

"But that would be wrong."

I qam not so much worried about Goss and the hooker scandel personally being involved. However I have deep concerns about the involvement of the number 3 guy there.

CNN is throwing all kinds of mud against the wall to see if any of it will stick.

Don't know yet, but several among us are ready to believe it is because of the "hookers on the hill" scandal. They are posting it now. Sickening to do that, imo, with no evidence of such.

Kick the U.N. out of America and put Bolton ahead of the CIA.

>>President Bush did not have to accept the resignation. This is a very interesting development though. The CIA has been a very big disappointment and really not worth the $30 billion we tax payers are forced to spend on the institution.<<

The CIA bidget is small compared to the military intelligence budget. When we talk about intelligence issues it goes beyond the CIA.

Huh? It has been alleged in print. Within the past two weeks. Then he resigns. You think no one should post that because none of us have the evidence? If that is the standard, 99.8% of what gets posted on this forum is inappropriate.

Brian just said maybe he lost a power struggle (forget the exact wording)

Negroponte wasn't the Intelligence Czar when Goss got appointed. Maybe Negroponte sees himself as "Super DCI" and Goss thought he was going to be the boss? Or at least that he was going to be able to communicate directly with the President and not have to pass all communications through another level?

The river of mud grows a little bit sludgier.

Yeah, I think this is just about Bush trying to improve his image before the mid-terms.

Because of who they were and how the subject was broached. They may have said that Goss did a good job, but now he was becoming a lightning rod and an obstacle to change given the McCarthy firing. In order to get the CIA reform back on track, it was necessary to put someone else in charge.

Former CIA Director, Stansfield Turner, calling into CNN, says he thinks the reason was Goss's being passed over for the top spot, taken by Negraponte, in the reorganization.
