Dean: GOP Makes Jews Uncomfortable

The head of the Democratic Party said Wednesday that unchecked U.S. reliance on foreign oil helps fund terrorists and the nation must address its energy needs in a way that creates jobs.

Howard Dean, in a speech to the American Jewish Committee, said new industries should emerge to develop alternative fuel sources. The other option, he said, is continued support of Islamic schools that teach hatred of the United States and Israel.

"We are committed to ending our standing while our oil money (provides) indirect funding of fundamentalist Islamic schools all over the world," he said.

Dean took a swipe at the Republican Party, saying the Democratic Party is one of inclusion and religious freedom.

"I was recently asked about the difference between the Democratic and Republican parties," Dean said. "When it comes right down to it, the essential difference is that the Democrats fundamentally believe it is important to make sure that American Jews feel comfortable being American Jews."

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, who is Jewish, addressed the group on Tuesday.

Dean decried energy industry subsidies, suspected price gouging and what he called a lack of leadership in Iraq. He also said any confrontation with Iran should be handled in a better way than the one with Iraq.

"Iran will not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons - period. They threaten the world. They threaten the United States of America," he said.

"When it comes right down to it, the essential difference is that the Democrats fundamentally believe it is important to make sure that American Jews feel comfortable being American Jews."

How many Americans see this as the essential difference between the parties?

The very words a fundamental difference. The GOP is not in the habit of pandering to different ethnic groups so openly and so patronizingly, and then turning around and calling the other partty racist/bigotted etc. The Democrats are the party that goes to black churches just before elections and says the GOP is like the KKK, then comes out of the churches and whines about their fears of too much Christian Right influence in election.

Dean expresses so well the class-less and debased "ID" of the Democrat party. This statement reveals much - that he sees Jews as Jews, not as "fellow Americans"; that he thinks a political party should make people 'feel comfortable', rather than, say, advance prosperity and protect their rights as citizens.

What a fitting leader for a now-deranged and wholly corrupt and hypocritical Democrat party.

Liberal atheist New York Jew: "Gee, which would I rather have? An evangelical Christian preaching to me about morality (maybe even Jesus), and telling me how much he loves Israel and the Hebrew people? Or a terrorist trying to saw off my head, or blow up my kids at school? This is a stumper..."

Real quote of hypothetical? I think some Jews woke up (like Ron Silver), but many seem to have fallen back into old habits. Especially as noted, secular Jews, who care far less about Israel than, say Pat Robertson (irony of ironies ... those secular Jews find Pat Robertson a bigger 'threat' to them than Hamas!)

See my previous post - I find Dean's comments so patronizing and absurd, especially when juxtaposed with a visit from Ken Mehlman, that I hope the Jews hearing it were offended and repulsed, as I would be if he said that same thing vis a vis Catholics.

I agree. I think the 10% ethanol should be in this year. That could replace what we get from the Middle East. Then maybe Europe can get off their lazy b**ts and protect their own oil supply there.

Just something I thought up, not a real quote. And yeah, I know what you mean.

From the List O Logical Fallacies:

False Dilemma:
A limited number of options (usually two) is given, while in reality there are more options. A false dilemma is an illegitimate use of the "or" operator. Putting issues or opinions into "black or white" terms is a common instance of this fallacy.

There are many other options besides continued support of Islamic schools that teach hatred of the United States and Israel.

Yes, well, the big happy, multi-cultural, tolerant hippie dream world the Democrats insist is the reality of their deluded reality will certainly tend to excrete a bit of the underlying rotten truth.

Of course, as in this news account, they will, with red face, hurriedly sweep it back under the carpet.  !

ahhhhh yes, the long term effects of mar-eeee-juan-ahhhhh

they will sweep it back under the pretty multicolored magic carpet, or they could also sweep it under Cynthia McKinney's hair. No one would find it there....no one would dare look!

I have to say that the left makes Jews uncomfortable.

Before anyone forgets, most American Jews in Israel who could vote in 2004 voted for George W. Bush - not the rat-faced Democrat.

"When it comes right down to it, the essential difference is that the Democrats fundamentally believe it is important to make sure that American Jews feel comfortable being American Jews."

What does that mean?

It's such an awkward statement, it sounds to me like Howard Dean is not too comfortable with American Jews himself.

That's a whole lot of nothing he said there. Politicans and lawyers are trained to say a lot of nothing, and the better they get at it the higher up in power they go.

As a Conservative American of Jewish heritage living in rural Northwest Montana (who owns a pet that is a wolf hybrid) the liberals which are primarily democratic SCARE me more than the GOP Mr. Dean.

Let's see -- Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, two liberal American house members who happen to be black and VERY VERY LIBERAL (one from Georgia, the other from California) who hate Jews. Hitlary Clinton (who hugs mrs. arafat) who has made numerous antisemitic remarks, Franklin Roosevelt who know the holocaust was taking place and did nothing etc... a democratic party in constant support of the palestinian terrorists, Sounds like the liberals are much worse.

I am opposed to abortion, I am opposed to illegal immigration and all the aid they get. CLOSE THE BORDER! I am opposed to socialism of Hitlary Clinton, I am opposed to a nanny state, I think that the Bible is correct. I have much more in common with conservative Christians than liberal Jews!

Yep, and Dean's Dems do everything within their power to stop us from drilling for our own, thus keeping us as dependent as ever.
