May 1 closures: who to boycott? Rallies (Live thread)
05/01/06

Posted on 04/30/2006 9:38:02 PM PDT by Heartofsong83

This should be a list of who is planning to close their business on Monday, May 1 in response of the Great American Boycott. We should compile it and boycott them ourselves if possible!

Remember to go shopping or work overtime on May 1!

Maquiladoras in Mexico

Export Assembly Plants for the United States

Maquiladoras are owned by U.S., Japanese, and European countries and some could be considered "sweatshops" composed of young women working for as little as 50 cents an hour, for up to ten hours a day, six days a week. However, in recent years, NAFTA has started to pay off somewhat - some maquiladoras are improving conditions for their workers, along with wages.

lol, I figure they are......I'm just concerned for everyone, though quite frankly, IMO the only way our politicians might wake up and smell the coffee, is if all hell breaks loose and they can't ignore it. So far, so good.

A large contingent of Mexican police in riot gear that as deployed near the port of entry did nothing to prevent the protesters from closing the border, although they did open the line to let several cars and trucks through. Tijuana police reportedly arrested at least three people for hitting cars as drivers tried to cross the border.

They're in riot gear.

Whole Foods...same with me, on Long Island NY, they are open.

Please be careful of who you condem.

But at the same time, there should be some kind of organization we can join to boycott all those that do close.

Let's see how many illegals they have hired, fine the Corp, deport the illegals and close down their shops!!

And for the folks in Leave it to Beaver land, it is
common for the head of the Maquiladoras to be kidnapped.
Many are Japanese, American etc. In just the past few weeks
several have been kidnapped. The drug cartels make the mafia look like boy scouts. THere is a lot going on and it ain't good.

According to this site....

8:40 AM Mr. A is reporting that the truckers have successfully shut down 90% of Los Angeles Harbor. So far only 5 trucks have shown up.

9:05 AM The traffic at LA harbor is usually 100 trucks per hour, but so far today only 5 trucks showed up in the last few hours.

http://la.indymedia.org/

I've heard no media reports on this. Anyone?

Bad enough the Mexicans have equated themselves with the Communists for their May Day parade. Why hasn't Ice penciled in all those companies that have closed because of the illegal aliens walking off. Tomorrow they should begin entering those businesses and getting the information from the companies. Then start deporting those that are illegal.
Yes, we're a nation of immigrants. That is a nation of immigrants that came here legally. Any illegal aliens need not apply.

checking in from San Diego - there are a couple hundred demonstrators in Chicano Park (underneath the Coronado Bridge), it looks like an impromptu demonstration, and there are Mexican flags everywhere

I can tell you what my "Day With Immigrants" went like here in Los Angeles. I have already worked a whole work day.

The immigrants shut down the over-priced cafe in the lobby of my high rise office building. So I didn't get to buy a crummy breakfast from them. McDonalds, however, was running smoothly ... no problems.

They made driving home a pain as I had to drive through the Valley to get to my home in Hollywood.

They shut down most of the Mexican food and taco joints in the neighborhood almost all owned by Mexicans so those Mexican owners had to take on the loss. I don't have to eat there .. certainly not today.

Now, if we give the jobs to non-immigrants all those plces would be open. Add to that not having to pay for Social Services on a Day Without Immigrants. More jobs ... less $$$ going out to pay for illegals.

If there truly weren't any immigrants I would not have had to take a detour home. Another plus for NO immigrants.

Net, net ... it's best without immigrants.

It is something that was planned, I just don't know if they were effective in doing it. In fact, if they did succeed, it was decided last week that the Teamsters across the country would honor the 'strike'. I've a family member that is a railroader. He said they could be off for 3 days to a week.

I see Rob Reiner (wearing the green jacket in the lower left part of the photo) looks right at home there.
