(CNN) -- Nigerian militants claimed Saturday that they detonate a car bomb outside an oil refinery in Warri.

A Nigerian army spokesman told the French news agency AFP that the blast caused no casualties and only minimal damage.

A group calling itself the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said the blast was a warning to companies working in Nigeria's oil fields, especially the Chinese. Chinese President Hu Jintao signed oil deals earlier this week with Nigerian officials during a state visit.

"Our operatives in Delta state in the Niger Delta planted and detonated one car bomb amidst petroleum product bridging tankers located close to the refinery in Warri," the group said in an e-mail sent to news organizations.

"We wish to warn the Chinese government and its oil companies to steer well clear of the Niger Delta. Chinese citizens found in oil installations will be treated as thieves.

>>Militants say blast intended to ward off 'Chinese oil thieves'<<

It sounds like this wasn't a big attack but it raises the concern that in their effort to strike against China and the Nigerian government they may hurt the U.S. and cause an oli panic.

I'm 42 and you'd think I would have learned that I can't type or spell so I ought to use the darn spell checker...

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would note that President just intervened a bit in the oil market last week and prices went down and then suddenly we have an explosion that raises them again... I might even think it was an oil producer responsible for the blast.

No I believe the rebels are responsible but unlike our government the Chinese I believe would retaliate very aggressively if any harm is intended to their installations and world reaction be damned

Like any good conspiracy theory mine is not harmed by logic or a few contradictory facts... :)

You probably haven't been paying attention to events in Nigeria then.

People who wonder about gas prices should remember we have Nigeria (where oil workers are sometimes taken hostage), Venezuala, Iran etc. Then there's China, the weak dollar, strong economy, terrorism & threats of... It is a perfect storm for high oil prices. I actually heard someone saying today that Exxon & the other majors are conspiring to make gas prices high.

Its amazing how many people in this country don't get either basic economics or capitalism in general.

It's the Dems (& their allies in the press & the schools). Capitalism is evil, according to them. They start with the ideology, and fit their reasoning to it.
