Religion may hinder Romney in '08
Chicago Sun Times ^

Posted on 04/28/2006 1:47:54 PM PDT by SDGOP

Prominent, respectable Evangelical Christians have told me, not for quotation, that millions of their co-religionists cannot and will not vote for Romney for president solely because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If Romney is nominated and their abstention results in the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton, that's just too bad. The evangelicals are adamant, saying there is no way Romney can win them over.

I agree completely. I have friends in that part of the country, and they're great people, but I'm sure they don't understand life in 'fly-over country'. The fact that I live in a very sake rural Texas area but I still cherish the right to carry a gun where ever I go. The fact that it's ok to talk religion with a stranger. These are just little things that the Gov would never understand.

If they can't get over christian demoninations ...

As others have pointed out, Mormonism is not a Chrisian denomination, Protestant or otherwise.  Mormon ethics appear to be similar to Christian ethics.  But the Mormon church ia not Christian.

Posting in fonts that size is a wee bit obnoxious, doncha think ?

In any event, I think some people around here don't understand the difference between trashing someone and drawing a conclusion on a particular pol. Trashing usually involves a gratuitous and potentially false slander, your mean-spirited DU insinuation, for example. Drawing a conclusion is stating that Romney is a failed one-term RINO Governor who doesn't even want to stick around and face up to the voters this November (and already likely has a plane ticket to flee to Utah in January), yet somehow he thinks he is Presidential timber (I guess he figures if dear ole dad, George, another RINO, ran, so can Willard Mitt). It does seem that an inflated sense of self seems an affliction that uniquely plagues Taxachusetts politicians of both parties.

Sounds like religious bigotry to me. I would judge a person by their previous actions and accomplishments.. whether they are Jewish, Mormon, Evangelical, Atheist, Protestant or Catholic.

Of coures I wouldn't vote for a muslim, as I've never seen a muslim who believes in liberty like I do. So I guess I'm bigoted as well to some extent when it comes to someone's religion.

Hello, what you saw was my humorous rejoinder to the comments in post #27. That show is obviously no more representative of Mormons than "The Sopranos" is representative of Sicilian/Italian-Americans.

I would have no problem with a Mormon, a Jew, an animist.

An islamist would make me think things over about 50 times.

>> Conversatives do not trust ANYONE from the east coast. <<

Yeah.. and by ANYONE we mean ANYONE! So either:

A) Everyone on this board worshipping George Allen thinks he's from Texas

B) Everyone on this board worshipping George Allen believes Virgina is geographically located around... Colorado or so.

Right?

The only judgment that matters.

By any test set forth in the New Tesatment the LDS Church is Christian. In fact, it is more reliably Christian than many if not all liberal Protestant denominations.

The other thing I remember about the Heritage Fdn guy's explanation - and I realize you can throw figures around pretty much the way you want to - was that the state of MA currently picks up the tab for the uninsured to the tune of $1 Billion annually - if the state has to subsidize health insurance for the poor (means tested poor), it will only cost the state (i.e., tax payers) a half a billion dollars a year.

Also it sounds good to say that you shouldn't have to pony up for health insurance if you don't want to but what started Romney working on this were all the people who didn't feel they should have to pay for health insurance but DID expect their fellow citizens to pick up their medical tabs for them.

Now that is socialism.

FORBIDDEN ZONE OF SCUMBAG COMMIE LIARS:

Not to worry, we'll beat those east coast devils! To save time of having to identify their evil brethen, I have started work on this:

Handy-Dandy Master Politician List of "ANYONE from the EAST COAST"
(we CANNOT EVER TRUST the following people by DEFAULT):

Jeb Bush
John Linder
Newt Gingrinch
Bob Baar
Connie Mack
Sonny Perdue
Saxby Chambliss
Zell Miller
Richard Burr
Patrick McHenry
Jim DeMint
Mark Sanford
Howard Cobel
Sue Myrick
Charles Taylor
George Allen
Randy Forbes
Virgil Goode
Michael Stelle
Roscoe Barlett
Christopher Smith
Scott Garrett
Rick Santorum
Pat Toomey
Curt Weldon
Tom Renyolds
Vito Fossella
Al D'Amato
Don Carcieri
Judd Gregg
Gordon Humphrey
Jim Douglas
Angus King

Oddly enough, it might make more sence if you said anyone from the WEST coast. Pretty much the only decent people there (Dino Rossi, Tom McClintock, etc.) are opposed tooth and nail when they try to seek an important office.
