Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
I went to the 11:45 showing. There weren't many people there, but all were silent and pensive at the end. I found it realistic, engaging and moving. I felt like I was there. I was a little surprised at the confusion with the military planes going the wrong way, the stewardess only able to reach a maintenance man, and the way the military liaison at the control tower seemed to be hard to reach and have no helpful comments.
The people on board were truly heroic and prevented another disaster.
Definitely worth seeing.
You are mistaken, young FRiend. My family and I just returned from the 2:35 screening at the Marcus Theaters on 256 in Pickerington. Go see it! This film was profound.
How could a 'man of the cloth' believe something like that?
The DUmmies are comparing it to the nazi film "triumph of the will"
THose folks are bitter twisted people
Too bad about the smallish crowd, hopefully tonight will be a good night for U93. Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
I just got back from seeing it and the two parts that stood out to me were:
When the terrorists got the crap kicked out of them, that was the "feel good" moment.
When the passengers were saying the Lord's prayer right before they fought back while the terrorists were praying to Allah. This was an excellent way to contrast the ideologies of passengers against the terrorists.
A very moving movie, it's very rare that you get to see real heroism in a movie and this is exactly what's on display.
Hope your son gets his A and that he convinces his friends that it is worth seeing. I personally would have liked to see a shot of the temporary memorial after the words with a reference to visiting the scene at Shanksville to pay your respects to these heroes.
I think you are right about the bitter and twisted- not sure I'd call 'em "people" though. More like "swine" or "vermin" or myrmidons.
Not sure if it's been posted on the thread here- but this evening A & E has a lineup of 911 shows- and the first segment looks to be interviews of people who didn't take Flight 93. It begins @ 7 Eastern.
Those DUmmies are just too cute. They'll show off their collective 1 neuron brain for anyone!
Where I saw it last evening, the (large) showing theater was 3/4 full. At the end, people waited a moment, and then applauded.
I was one of the few who stayed for all of the credits. I saw that several of the monitoring tower and armed services people played themselves (not just Ben Sliney).
Someone in my family found the handheld verite cinematographic style to cause extreme dizziness to the point of being physically ill. I therefore believe the film would appeal to more people if the number of handheld shots were minimized instead of maximized. My impression is that Greengrass is unfortunately unaware of this...
Well put.
It is in no way, shape or form hyperbolic to state that this may easily prove itself to be the single most important mass market film of the last fifty, sixty years at least, should a great enough percentage of this country's citizens actually bestir themselves to see it, rather than opting for the easy, mind-numbing comforts of (say) Scary Movie 4, or RV. The remorseless efficiency with which it reminds one -- inexorably; irrefutably -- of the stark whys and wherefores necessitating our victory in the current culture clash between civilization and barbarity -- a far, far better job, regrettably, than this administration has done itself, these past few years -- conceivably could (and manifestly SHOULD) serve as rousing a rallying clarion call for thinking, freedom-minded men and women as did Fahrenheit 911, for the hopelessly delusional.
During the entire last half hour, my wife -- the strongest, bravest woman I have ever known -- was weeping, openly and unashamedly; and my own jaw clenched so tightly, throughout, that it practically Novocained my entire face numb. In the wake of the final blackout scene, the entire theater -- here in the Drooling, Brain-Dead Leftist Capital of the Free World Entire, mind -- was as silent and unmoving, for long moments afterwards, as a tableau of the bottommost portion of the Mariana Trench.
Everyone you know, or ever have known -- "progressive," conservative or what-have-you -- needs to see this film.
NEEDS to.
"...it is NOT too soon. It may be too LATE..."
I thoroughly agree with you! I wish all the dimocrats who claim 9/11 was "no big deal" or that "we deserved it" could be made to watch the film. Speaking of things that will never happen.
We're going to see it tomorrow afternoon. I'm confident it will be tough to watch. Doesn't matter. It's the least we can do for the memory of those who were on board.
They are already claiming it is Republican and CIA propaganda.
Its part of life, they need to experience it.
It was probably uttered at least 20 times, each time was appropriate.
Just as the terrorists sneaked in....Satan has infiltrated the church...
you see it all the time in the news.
