Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

Years ago I read a short story about the "Ancient Body Ritual of the Nacirema," which is really a description of an archaeology dig about American bathroom tasks. Your comment reminded me of that, as though the DUmmie are a tribe.
We wonder where the decisive are when our cultural pictures are airbrushed, and the message is always peace through discussion and placating. For these many years since WWII, all here admit the general populous has germinated in the stew, not of sentimentalism but of a romantic adolescence born of plenty. Our hands are hand cream soft as our minds have mildewed with too much self-reflection and self-absorbtion. Those who rise from the Street and poverty bred from false beliefs come hard by us now, expecting to push us whimperingly aside in our civility.
At issue thus is not so much whether we have the courage to fight to keep our freedom and civilization as much as it is whether we can be faithful always to the verve and will the men and women showed on Flight 93.
The DUmmie? They will go the way of the Nacirema, becoming subjects of archaological curiosity. Such is the price of cowardice.
This sounds like a movie that is very much worth seeing.

Sorry .. I don't agree with that analysis. The congress HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE VOTERS WANT - if they did, they wouldn't be doing all this stupid stuff they have been doing lately.
Why aren't they releasing the Barrett Report - and heaping shame on the democrats for their manipulation of the IRS ..?? Why aren't they listening to us about securing our borders and not coddling the ILLEGALS ..??
My main complaint is they cower to the dems when there is no need to .. and ignore THOSE OF US WHO ARE VOTING FOR THEM - as if we don't matter.

Then, I went downtown to do a booksigning of my 9/11 novel, and most of the people there were going to see "United 93" tonight.
A point I think is important:
The citizens aboard Flight 93, absent new and chilling intelligence information they received via cell phone, in all likelihood would have proceeded according to what had been SOP for decades in dealing with hijackers: Sit tight and wait for the cavalry to arrive.
But, when they learned the truth, that airliners were being used as guided missiles to attack Americans and American landmarks, they instantly realized that the rules had changed.
They immediately adapted, and quite literally formed a militia on the spot. No cavalry was coming.
Not having anything that we would normally think of as weapons, they did what they had to do: they improvised. They heated water in a microwave to scald the terrorists, and made a drink cart into a battering ram.
Dang, if I was POTUS, I'd give them all the Congressional Medal of Honor.
I know, I know. They weren't military, in the strictest terms. But they were American patriots, protecting their fellow Americans, for which they paid the ultimate price.
Someone I don't think too many folks would argue.
No, they ARE listening to the voters. You live in CALIFORNIA. Maybe you should move. You don't have the votes over there for what you want.
Jeff Sessions listens to us over here. That's because there are lots of conservative voters in Alabama. Yep, the pols do what they do based on their perception of what their local constituents want. There are a lot of liberals and illegal immigrants out there in CA as I understand. :-)
The TV movie was on the side of the passengers. There was more character development of the passengers and the music was on their side, too.
And there was film of the ground after the plane hit and flowers at the impact site, as I recall. And they may have had real photos of the passengers at the end.
It was one of the most gripping movies I have ever seen, however I thought that the military came across as unprepared. The liaison to the FAA could not be found and then when he was he didn't seem to know what to do. Almost no planes were available to scramble, only 2 were armed and the ones that got off the ground wasted time heading out over the Atlantic Ocean, I guess, as they had been practicing for an invasion from outside the country. They reported events to each other crisply but seemed unable to act in a timely manner. I kept thinking of the lack of support for our military during the Clinton years.
The FAA, on the other hand, was certainly operation on something new, but handled it well. It was the head man, who called for all planes to land and no others to enter the country, all this on his first day on the job. Everyone was doing his best in a very frightening situation.
I'm taking my elderly father to see it....a World War II vet....

I agree, but only because of a surprising level of incompetence on the part of the moonbats.
If I could trick them into following a losing strategy for the upcoming elections, I would have them do just as they are.
For once I'm glad to see their complete incompetence.
Someone told me that he had been involved in a hijacking some years before. It was probably harder for him than anyone else to accept that hijacking no longer meant an inconvenient stop during your trip.
How I was wishing that just one passenger or crew member had a firearm. The terror as well as the bravery of the passengers is palpable.
I had no fear of this whatsoever. I thought the movie really brought home the understanding that we are in a war. I believe everyone who watches this movie will leave the theater knowing that we were attacked as an act of war. That is the main reason the loonies, commies, and other assorted libs hate this movie.
That part of my short comments didn't come out right and I was in a hurry. A better way to say it would be:
The hijackers weren't portrayed as evil in a cartoonish way, but rather as the sort of focused fanatical evil that there is no reasoning with. Some might think this humanizes them, I think it removes almost every trace.

The surprising 'moral message' I got from the film is one regarding self defense.
--- Over and over we see the passengers hesitate to attack the two hijackers who are defending the aisle leading to flight deck.
The movie makes clear that they hesitated because they had no weapons. -- And, - because they were accustomed to hearing the bureaucratic chant of 'take no action' -- 'offer no resistance' - to those who intend to kill you.

Yes indeed, the movie showed how the lack of weapons influenced the passengers reactions. A few pocket knives could have saved them all..

I think the passengers took action once they reached the threshold where they felt that death was inevitable if action wasn't taken. They had one chance to retake control and at the low altitude it was a slim chance-- but better to die taking your one chance than to die sitting in your seat.
The knowledge that they gained from the ground about the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon was the crucial factor that raised them from "9-10 thinking" and put them square on the front line of this War against Radical Islam, and God Bless them all for taking this action.
*September 10 thinking is when hijackers didn't turn planes into missiles, but used them to negotiate with hostages. It is also when we fail to take them seriously when they threaten us and to chalk their evil statements up to overheated rhetoric.
The world is making some September 10 mistakes at present with Mr. I'm-on-a-jihad of Iran IMHO.
